I recently received a money off voucher for Look Fantastic as I am apparently one of their most valued customers... which merely translates that I spend far too much time and money on that site for my own good. As the voucher had an expiry date on it I decided to plunge right in and spend it that very day which was clearly the aim of their very clever marketing department. The voucher entitled me to 50% off anything I spent over £10 up to a value of £100 which was (in my shopping addicted mind) too good an offer to turn down! Instead I headed straight onto Look Fantastic to start my shopping...

The first product I added to my basket to get me over the £10 threshold was Aveda's Brilliant Shine on Spray, a product I've been looking longingly at for the past year or so but never quite got around to buying. Aveda is a professional hair care brand which was founded back in 1978. Their aim was to provide industry professionals with high performance, botanically based products that would not only be better quality but also better for the planet too. They currently offer a large range of plant based hair care, skin care, make up, perfume and lifestyle products. Their products can only be found online or in salons.

The shine spray has two main properties which is what caught my eye in the first place. It promises to effectively eliminate flyaway hairs and tame frizz while at the same time it provides a sheer mist of shine and vitamin E to your hair. Now the majority of shine sprays I've used in the past only offer to give you the obvious benefit of shine so this one has an added advantage to it. It contains rice bran which is a base oil aimed to give sun protection to your hair as well. All its ingredients are as planet friendly as possible and the majority of them are actually derived from plants making it an eco friendly product.

The Brilliant Shine on Spray comes in a dark blue plastic bottle which is quite eye catching and vivid in terms of its colour. It has a small blue plastic pull off cap which covers the push down dispenser on the top of the bottle where the shine spray is dispensed from. The bottle has the brand and product name on the front of it in a cream coloured plain font with some additional information being displayed on the back. All in all the packaging is quite plain really, although the bottle colour is eye catching there is nothing to suggest the high price tag or professional quality of the product through its packaging.

The spray itself can be dispensed by pushing down on the dispenser, it doesn't allow for a continuous flow of spray like with a hairspray can but at least this way you can manage exactly how much is coming out which I feel is better for this type of product. The spray is clear in colour and has a delicious, lightly perfumed smell to it which makes my hair smell lovely and really fresh. The one thing I did notice about the spray was that when I accidentally got a little on my t shirt it left a very faint grease mark. Now I'm not sure if this is due to the rice bran base oil it contains or what but it was a little greasy.

To apply you need to spray a sheer mist over your finished hair style to give smooth hair with an incredible shine according to the instructions on the bottle. They then suggest to maximise shine you comb it evenly through your hair. To focus on eliminating frizz they recommend you spray onto a paddle brush and then run that through your hair. You can also apply it to your hair before straightening it to encourage a smoother and sleeker finish. Finally you can also apply it a day or two after you've washed your hair if you want to, just to boost the shine and help control any frizz that's appeared.

So onto my last two experiences...

Experience 1 - Prior to drying and straightening my hair I decided to replace my usual non frizz spray with the Aveda product to see what it was like. I sprayed it evenly through my hair and combed it through to ensure it was evenly dispensed. I then dried my hair as normal and found that my hair appeared to have much more of a shimmer to it and also appeared to be fairly frizz free as well. I do normally use a separate frizz product and I think using them both in conjunction together gives the best results.

Experience 2 - After styling my hair ready for my night out last weekend I sprayed my hair evenly with the shine spray, as I've got quite thick shoulder length hair I probably used about ten squirts in total as I didn't want to overload my hair at all. As I turned to face myself in the mirror my hair was positively gleaming in the bathroom light, it looked really healthy and shiny too. This shine lasted right through the night and left my hair with a lovely smell and smooth to touch as well. No frizz in sight!

I can't recommend the Aveda Brilliant Shine on Spray enough; I absolutely love this product and am so glad I invested in it. I've never found a shine spray that gives so much shine to my hair without adding any grease at all and it helps to keep my hair flat and frizz free as well. It's priced at £11.75 in salons for 100ml but you can purchase it online at lower prices, I go mine for £10.00 at Look Fantastic and I think it's well worth every penny I paid. I'm giving the Aveda Brilliant Shine on Spray the full five stars, it's a great quality product that really does do the job... it can shine down on my hair any day of the week!
