Advantages: Healthy looking hair, Deep Shine, Last a long time

Disadvantages: Initial cost

Have you ever noticed how healthy a young child’s hair looks, it’s full of bounce with such a shine the sun or light seems to glisten on their head and all the shades of colour in the hair really come to life. Well all our hair would have looked like that once, before we started to use conditioners full of petrochemicals and styling gels, hair sprays, hair dryers, etc.

It is common knowledge that you should drink plenty of water throughout the day to help rid our bodies of toxins, well our hair and scalp also suffer from a build up of toxins which causes itchy scalps and dull, lifeless looking hair.

I have never really had much of a problem with dandruff but about four year ago I thought I was developing this condition, my hairdresser told me I had a stressed scalp, which I assumed was a polite way of telling me I had dandruff so I started to use Aveda Hair Detoxifier.

Aveda Hair Detoxifier is a shampoo developed to remove the build up on the hair caused by the environment and synthetic conditioners, styling aids and shampoos, it cleanses the scalp and hair and is particularly good at removing substances such as stale tobacco and chlorine, which clings to the hair after swimming, it cleanses without stripping the hair and scalp of their natural oils and pigmentation.

The Detoxifier is made of extracts from 100% organically grown flowers and plants, its main ingredients are aloe to maintain the hair’s natural moisture, sage, which is a natural astringent and coconut, which creates a thick, creamy lather. The aroma of Aveda Hair Detoxifier is light, fresh and soothing.

After originally using this shampoo every wash for two weeks I found I no longer had a problem with dandruff and my hair felt and looked in better condition than it had in years. I now use the shampoo about once every two weeks to keep my hair in good condition unless I have been swimming then I always use Aveda Hair Detoxifier.

>The shampoo is clear in colour and slightly thicker than other shampoos, I have long hair but I use about the size of a ten pence piece of shampoo to wash my hair, after squeezing the shampoo on to my damp hand I rub both hands together to warm the liquid and to create a lather, then apply it to my hair making sure I get deep into the roots; the shampoo rinses out very quickly. I only use the Detoxifier for the first wash; if I feel my hair requires a second wash I use a different Aveda shampoo because the detoxifier will have already removed all the build up.

The shampoo costs approximately £8.50 for 250ml but this really is not a great deal more expensive than most other deep cleansing shampoos and you need such a small amount to give a thick, creamy lather the shampoo last a very long time.

To sum up I would say Aveda Hair Detoxifier is a very gentle plant based shampoo that deep cleanses the hair and balances the scalp, it is cold-processed to preserve nutrients and is biodegradable, has plant derived aromas and antioxidants, it is a pleasure to use and I very rarely need to use a conditioner after washing my hair. My hair once again has a healthy shine and looks alive.
