Advantages: Clean Hair, No build up
Disadvantages: Price is a bit of an invesment.
I first started using Aveda shampoos a few years ago when I was them advertised on QVC. Since then their popularity has grown and they are widely available from salons and online. What attracted me to them was that they use pure plant ingredients, that are organically grown. No petrochemicals in their products. Sensible packaging that can be recycled. Unlike other shampoos you choose this range by your hair colour, rather than hair type. The reason being that different herbs and plant essences will enhance your natural hair colour. Clove.. This is for brown and dark blonde hair and will enhance honey tones. Red Malva.. For enhancing red tones. Blue Malva.. For any colour but cools brassy tones in blondes. Good for reducing yellowish tinges in grey hair. Black Malva..For very dark hair shades. Camomile... For enhancing golden tones in blonde hair. None of these shampoos actually contain dyes to add colour, they just highlight what is actually there. They all have the same smell which is cherry almond and they leave the hair lightly fragranced. The shampoo is very gentle, you can use it as often as you want. You only need a blob about the size of a 10p to give a rich lather. Which ever one you choose it leaves the hair soft and shiny. It rinses out well and doesn't leave any build up. Does the colour enhancing work. Well on my brown hair with the clove I didn't notice a great difference, but on my son who is very blonde the blue malva really does enhance the brightness of colour. The colour of the shampoo itself can be a little alarming if you choose any of the malvas. The black comes out well black, the red malva is bright red/orange and the blue is a bright violet colour. This is nothing to worry about it won't make your hair go any of these shades. I vary my Aveda shampoos as sometimes in the winter I need a mo
re conditioning type. But during the summer these are my first choice, especially to keep my blonde children looking bright and shiny. Aveda are based in the U.S. if you visit their website aveda.com you can read about their aims and their products. The founder is Horst Rechelbacher (now theres a name to conjure with). The gist of his mission seems to be to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility. The shampoo comes in 250ml,500ml and litre bottles prices start at around £7.00. I find that a litre bottle will last the whole family for around six months often longer. This costs me about £19.00 which isn't bad for half a year.

- 25/05/01 You're right it is a wee bit expensive, but all the top hairdressers say buy the best shampoo you can afford, and I'm inclined to agree. Good op by the way. |
