Advantages: brilliantly moisturising, fantastic smell, all natural ingredients

Disadvantages: dull brown bottle

Because you're worth it.. :) After trying just about every shampoo on the market, I converted to Aveda Pure Plant Shampoos - Black Malva being my favourite - a few years ago and have never looked back. Not one to be a fuddy-duddy, I have tried samples of new shampoos from other brands once in a while just in case, but have never been impressed. If you want moisturising, if you want volume, if you want fantastic fragrant hair but without nasty chemicals or synthetic fragrance - Aveda shampoos are the only ones I would recommend.

You may balk at the £8 pricetag when you may have been used to paying £2-£4 on a supermarket/chemist regular shampoo, but it is worth every penny. There is one huge difference between this shampoo and all others on the market - it's foam base is Coconut Oil. Every other shampoo uses Sodium Laurel Sulphate (check the labels, by law they have to tell you what's in it) as a foaming agent. You may recognise this ingredient from good old bubble bath. Yep, that's what's in most bottles of shampoo. But not Aveda's. Coconut oil provides Aveda's natural, non-chemical, moisturising, caring non-detergent base.

Add to that the pure plant aromas (each of the Aveda shampoos smell fantastic - Black Malva is reminiscent to me of sweet licorice) and the cocktail of herbs and plants in each bottle, your hair will thank you for natural goodness. It rescued me from the effects of a disastrous salon treatment a few years ago, imparting my frazzled mop with soothing moisture. Nowadays, my hair is shiny and healthy and despite being very long, I don't even need to use conditioner every time after I use the Pure Plant Shampoo.

Each of the Aveda Pure Plant shampoos can be used on any hair colour and type, but can provide subtle herby enhancers to specific shades too: Black Malva for dark hair, Camomile for fair hair, Red Malva for red hair, Clove for brunette hair and Blue Malva for grey hair.
There are no chemical colourants and therefore are very safe to use. Each of these shampoos has a fantastic colour too - Black Malva is virtually, black in colour! How cool is that?! Admittedly, the Aveda packaging is not the most glamourous (ecological reasons) so you can feel free to dispense your vivid black, blue, yellow, or red shampoos in a see through bottle and give your guests a talking point if you so desire!

I can't recommend this shampoo highly enough. You don't even need to use much to get a rich, cleansing, wonderfully fragrant lather atop your head. Enjoy.

:)

Excellent op! :-)

I usually wash my hair with Lush shampoo bars, which are all natural but cheaper than Aveda - but it does sound a very good product.

That sodium lauryl thingy is rumoured to be really bad for you but turns up in practically everything, as you say. I must try the Aveda line.
