Advantages: Conditions your hair really well, lovely, rich texture
Disadvantages: Weird smell, initial cost
Okay, so we all know that Aveda products smell gorgeous, don't we? After all, they're chock-full of the most amazing flower and plant essences... Ahem...I don't quite know how to break the bad news to you, but here's one that is very likely change your opinion on that. Sap Moss Shampoo contains, surprisingly enough, sap moss. Now, I'm not sure whether you've ever actually sniffed any moss. I mean, it's not the sort of thing that any sane person would do, is it? Well, I have. And let me tell you that it's not terriby exciting nor particularly attractive. So, rather than the usual lovely fruity/herby/floral aromas we're used to with Aveda, this shampoo smells kind of weird, like a damp forest. Wait! Before you go running off, screaming that there's no way you want your hair to end up smelling of rotting trees, let me give you some good reasons for buying this product if you have dry hair. (Besides, if your friends remark that your hair smells a little odd, you can always give them the Aveda spiel, which describes the scent as "arboreal". Sounds a heck of a lot better than "rotting trees", eh?) The first and foremost good news about this stuff is that the weird-smelling sap moss is supposed to infuse your hair with all manner of helpful nutrients. From my personal experience, it also seems to possess excellent moisurising and conditioning properties which do no end of good to my poor, dry, frizzy mop. A word of warning - this shampoo does not lather up, so don't go adding more and more to your hair, thinking that you're not using enough. A 10p piece sized dollop is sufficient to wash my shoulder length hair, although I always do 2 washes. Obviously, using such a small amount is very economical and means that your tube of Sap Moss Shampoo will last you for quite some time. Although I also use a conditioner aft
erwards, - Aveda Curessence seems to do the trick for me - this product seems to add moisture and condition to my hair without weighing it down. And, let's face it, my hair needs all the help it can get. Once you get used to the unusual smell and the non-lathering, but incredibly rich, texture, you can appreciate the wonderful things that this shampoo can do for your dry, frizzy, and even heat or colour damaged hair. So ignore your silly friends and their "rotting tree" remarks and go out to your local Aveda stockist and try some for yourself! The weird smell doesn't stay around for very long and you're left with soft, well-conditioned hair.

- 12/07/02 Hmm... think I might give this a miss - I am currently smelling of papaya which sounds a bit nicer at the moment. If I fancy damp forest for a change I may well investigate this - cheers! |
