The reason that I love the Toys R Us baby gym is that it is so simple. There are no flashing lights or tacky tunes playing, this piece of equipment relies on baby exploring in order to make his own entertainment.

This must be one of my best buys at just £9.99. I actually bought it to replace my fancy Fisher Price gym (£24.99) that was a total flop (see my other op). This gym is made of durable plastic and colours may vary, mine is bright purple and yellow. It needs to be assembled once bought but this is very easy to do. The instructions show you every step although you don't really need them as it is quite obvious. The plastic piece slot easily into place.

The gym has three toys that hang down over baby's head. One of these is a teddy bear holding a squeaker, another is like a ball with a bell in that baby can whizz round. There is also a mirror. These toys are secured on a plastic strap that can be made longer/shorter as required. These toys can be taken off and offered to baby as hand toys at a later stage.

On the side of the gym are several more toys. My favourite is the huge egg. When baby bashes it, it opens up as if cracked and in the middle is a chicken. The chicken spins round and round. My son loved to see the egg come apart he thought it was very funny. On the other side are two rattle type toys which spin round at great speed.

The gym is very easy to clean and takes knocks very well. My son used this from being a few weeks old on a daily basis. It allowed me time to eat my tea etc. You are advised to take this gym off your child when he/she can sit unsupported. Mine is now ready to be stored away just in case another baby arrives at some point. I cannot however for the life of me take the thing down. The pieces should just slot back out of place but I am resigned to storing it away fully assembled. This is a bargain buy something that every new parent must have.
