Brilliant buy, well built and fun for growing babies!

We were unsure of whether to invest in a baby walker from the outset and were perhaps a little bit late in purchasing this one as my son had no sense of urgency to get up and explore. However after a bit of research we invested in this model and we are very glad we went with it. The colours attracted us, bright and fun without being too gender specific. There seemed a great selection of activities on the little play table-these are removable but when little one isn't eating they provide a safe distraction for him.
This product is priced mid-range at around £40 so it wasn't a huge dent in the bank balance and in my opinion paid for itself many times over. He used to play in his play pen but as soon as this came on the scene the play pen was a thing of the past. He enjoyed the freedom to move, the wheels move the walker with ease across most surfaces. My son was able to follow me around the house as I completed daily tasks and the the play table was handy for him to have his snack on the move!
The walker is height adjustable so ideal for growing with baby. It is a good solid and sturdy design which was straight forward to assemble and collapses flat for storage or transportation. The entire unit is wipe clean, including the seat which can actually be detached to be washed.
I noticed that the frame quite often gave my son the confidence and the stability to stand on his legs unaided. The more persistent this became the more we encouraged him without the walker. Exploring the house with the walker also gave him the confidence when the time came to explore unaided, he quickly learnt the 'no-go' areas. It brilliant for mother and child, mother knowing that the child is moving around safely, child with a whole new realm of independence.
Some words of caution however, watch your ankles and toes-these may become destroyed by the path of the whizzing walker. Be mindful too of small side tables which may topple over if jolted, especially where these contain ornaments or have drinks on them. It is also worth mentioning that a whole new level of items now becomes accessible to your child-be wary of plug sockets and trapped fingers as little hands try to prise open doors and cupboards! We had a situation with self closing doors which caused no end of worry, not only from trapping of fingers but because little one would get stuck and become distressed!
Overall however we will certainly be using this item again for our next child.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      My first choice in walkers.

We purchased this second hand for my son from a local shop, it was an impulse buy and it seemed a good price so we had not looked at or reviewed any others.

It comes with a 'DJ' play tray which can be removed easily although apart from changing the batteries and cleaning it was never used without the tray on. It makes all sorts of different sounds and music. It has a music 'book' and when you turn a page it plays a different lot of music. It has a piano you can tap the keys of and also includes animal sounds. It has lots to do and easy for babies to play with from early on until they have more control in later months.

It has a brightly patterned seat which can be removed for machine washing.

It is very sturdy, we had laminate floors and once my son learnt to zoom along fast he often hit out coffee table at the speed of light and it barely flinched so we were always very confident in it keeping my son safe. It is also very hard wearing as it was knocked about along walls and furniture yet the base only really has light surface scratches.

I can't comment on its use for carpets though as we never had any to try it on.

It seemed to be easy to turn and maneuver. After we had had it for a few months I remember looking around a shop which had several walkers on display and I was really suprised to find that many of them are far smaller and more compact, and worryingly flimsy looking! So we may not have done any research in to this walker but we knew we had made a good choice. I have also heard stories of children managing to stand on the base of some walkers and somehow climbing. This is definitely not possible with the Chicco DJ walker.

This walker has 3 height settings and folds down for storage, although it is still fairly bulky and takes up quite alot of room.

The worse thing bout this though is that the piano on the music tray stopped working. Our son suffered from very severe reflux at the age he was using this and it inevitably got sick on it quite a few times. It is so difficult to clean the music tray, on a few occasions I took it completely apart to get wipes, cotton buds and toothpicks in to all the tiny gaps in it. Unfortunately the piano stopped working (it played music but the keys wouldn't play when pressed). We took it apart right down to the electric inside to clean it but could never get it going again. We looked online to see if we could replace it and after looking in a few forums and reviews it seemed that the piano breaking was a common problem and may not just have been due to it being soiled.

We were lucky to live in a very spacious flat when we had this, and although I have kept it for our second child we now live in a house with much smaller rooms and I don't know if we will really get that much use out of it.

It is a great walker though in terms of durability and stability and I would recommend it over the smaller ones. It is very fun and has definitely been used to its full potential.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Overall a very good product

We were lucky enough to be given the Chicco DJ baby walker by a family friend when my little girl arrived last year, my little girl finally got round to using the walker at around 3-4 months when she could hold her head safely unaided, because the walker was second hand I cannot comment on how easy it was put together from scratch but it was easy enough for us to put up from flat by just pulling up the seat part from the base/wheels.

      - So what does the walker do?-
Apart from the obvious, helping your baby be mobile without the bumps and grazes, the walker can also be used just to entertain your baby whilst you get on with the daily chores.. The walker has a board in front of the baby seat which contains on a keyboard, what only I can describe as a flippy thing which looks a little like a book page to switch between modes, a turney spinny thing which eventually your baby can grip hold of and spin round in circles, a drum button and a few beads on a loop, and of course the godsend, two volume settings (quiet and loud!). To begin with my daughter was most interested in banging the keyboard keys which play tunes or make animal noises as well as light up, as she started to grow she started flipping the book page back and forth- much to my annoyment when the sound is on full!
My daughter is now 12 months and not quite walking yet but she loves wizzing around the living room bumping and crashing into walls, the tv unit and so on and I am happy that she is safe and sound from any nasty falls or bumps and the product is durable enough to withstand all of this without hardly a scratch on the walker in sight.
The board actually lifts off the walker so it can be used like a highchair tray, I often lift this off and give my daughter snacks in this so she can still whizz about or do as she pleases without the worry of her falling out of her highchair if my back is turned for a few minutes.

      - What does the walker look like?-
As with many children's toys and equipment I'm sure there are a few different versions out there. My version had a blue base with wheels, the typical cross frame to a walker, a yellow top half of the frame with blue reflectors on each corner, a colourful board and a green, blue pink and yellow spotty seat (which can be removed for washing although quite fiddly). Overall I would say the walker is very 'neutral' suitable for both boy and girl, so can be kept for any future children without the worry.

      - How easy is it to put up and store? -
The walker is very easy to use, all it takes is one hand to lift the upper part of the walker and when you hear the clicks you know it is safe to use, infact I often can put the walker up one handed whilst holding my baby so that just shows how easy it is. Under the upper part of the walker is a leaver with a button (I presume this is almost like a child lock as you have to press the button and pull leaver at the same time for it to work.) this lowers the walker to different height settings so that once your child is mobile, his/her feet can touch the floor easily without it causing any harm to their legs. If you want to collapse the walker flat all you have to do is pull the leaver again past the clicking point. I find the walker very bulky and quite hard to store flat when not in use, although I think it folds flat for more for permanent storage in the loft/shed/garage etc.

      - So where can I buy the walker? -
As I said above we actually were given the walker from a family friend but after a little bit of research you can buy the Chicco baby walker from a number of places- Mothercare, Argos, Amazon, Tesco Direct etc. the walker retails for aroud the £30-£40 mark, although I'm sure with a little shopping around this can be found even cheaper.

      - Do you have any negatives towards the walker?-
Generally overall I am very happy with the product. However, If I were to go into a shop and buy the walker it possibly wouldn't be a first choice on my list as its a little boring looking on the surface and a little too neutral for my liking (I am a very pink, pink, pink mummy!) and think it would benefit a boy and girl version but that would be my only grumble.

The product deserves a 5* rating as apart from my love of pink, I really cannot complain, it keeps my child out of harms way and occupied for as long as I need it to.

      Thank you for reading, littleminnie

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Worht the money and more and a much nicer and unisex design then many available.

I bought this product for my daughter when the crawling stage was no longer a novelty and she couldn't quite get the knack of walking and one year later she may be walking, running and jumping but she still uses it and is still entertained by it. With all the different gadgets on it they will be entertained in the kitchen while you cook up the purees or make a well deserved cup of tea and when the toys become over used and boring you can whip off the top and have a little table putting their own toys on to keep them entertained. It folds up easily and quite flat for storage and I can even collapse and assemble it with baby in one arm! A fact that every baby toy designer should think of. The bright colours mean its not an eye sore and its reasonable easy to wipe over although getting between the keys on the piano can be a bit tricky. Overall much better then many walkers I have seen and with two different height options means its lasts them through with no wear or tear. And with unisex colours it can be passed on to the next child and the next child and so on!

      Disadvantages

      Excellent value, builds childrens co-ordination.

I purchased this Walker in 2008 for my daughter from Mothercare and it cost me around the £35-£40 mark.
It is a very sturdy and reliable walker, as it is now being used by my third child, and she loves it.
It is very easy to fit together though you may struggle with attaching my seat unit fabric as itt is a little tough to pull the plastic piece through the holes.

As well as having wheels they also come with some rubber pads which attach to the bottom. These are used as breaks, so the faster you little one starts zooming around they gently touch the floor to slow it down). I on the other hand didn't need the use for these as we have carpet and they stop baby from moving the walker with them on. On kitchen floors and wood/laminate flooring its worth having them on.

The walker is very colour and eye catching. There are many buttons that make a variety of noise on the play panel. This just sits on to the tray and takes 2 AA batteries. They are easy to press even my 6 month old can press them. There's a small keyboard on it which lights up when the keys are pressed. This helps with children's hand eye co-ordination and development. They will smile and giggle at all the noises. It's also great for learning animals as it makes animal noises. It makes your child more aware to different sounds and colours. It's an excellent way to encourage your children's development.

There are 3 different height positions depending on the size of your baby. This is easy to change as under the play tray there is a button and leaver which allows you to vary the height.

You don't need to have the toys attached to the tray as if you gently lift them up you will reveal a small area which will allow you to place finger foods on.

The seat unit is also washable which make hygiene much easier for you, as not all walkers allow you to remove this.

There are no Sharpe edges and is very child friendly. It's also wide so will not fit through the average doorway so no need to worry about your child getting into rooms you don't want them to. (Unless like me you live in a new build and the door ways are slightly larger for wheel chair access, as they do fit through these with ease.)

This walker is suitable from one baby can lift the one head and start to have more control over the movements. I have used this walker from around 6-8 months depending on the development of my child.

As i said before i am now using this walker for my 3rd child and its still going strong. I very well produced products and a big thumb up to Chicco.

Overall an excellent well-made baby toy with excellent advantages to your children. Excellent value for money as has extra benefits as being able to wash the covers.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

An excellent product available for a very reasonable price

I purchased this DJ walker from Mothercare in November 2011 for a discounted price of £39.
I am very pleased with this product.
        - The walker was very easy to assemble (I did it myself without the help of a man!!).
        - It has a removable tray featuring a keyboard, turntable and music book which sound and light up when pulled, pushed or turned so I consider this good for developing motor skills.
        - It is bright and colourfull.
        - It has a padded seat which is removable for cleaning (the manufacturer suggests hand washing only but I have washed on a cool wash with no problems).
        - It has three height settings which meant that my son was able to use from approx. 5 months.
        - As above the tray is removable, it should be pointed out that you will likely loose a nail in the process of removing but I found this really helpful as it allowed me to feed my child in the walker prior to him using a highchair.
        - On the negative side the walker comes with stoppers presumably for the feeding function outlined above however they were difficult to put on as requires the product to upside down. I think perhaps some kind of brake mechanism would be better.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        good value for money

I got this toy for my son for Christmas as I wanted to help him to strengthen his legs and walk. I choose this one because of the features and price. On the whole I am very pleased with it, my son loves playing in it and running around the house! He never seemed to have any problems moving the walker himself however it is a bit tricky on carpet! The activity 'bit' on the front has lots of things to do such as a little keyboard and spinning dial. The lights are very inticing for a child and he enjoys the music.

It is very easy to adjust the height and can be done it minutes. The cover is removable to wash however it is a nightmare to put back on, I spent much of Christmas day putting it together in the first place. The cover only just fits and is very hard to clip into place. The walker can be folded falt for easy storage and can be put back up in seconds.

The colour scheme is unisex although there is pink on it which may put some people off but my son loves polka dot so was ideal for him. Make sure that you turn the activity bit off when you have finished playing with it as it will randomly go off otherwise and doesn't shut up- not great being woken in the middle of the night by its songs!

I think this toy is good value for money and my son it still using it now and he's walking. It keeps the child entertained and allows you to get on with other things.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Good value for money but it's a shame they haven't got the height settings quite right.

We were attracted to this baby walker because of the activity panel on it, it has a keyboard with 3 different sound settings, a little pretend page in a book (which my daughter loved turning backwards and forwards) and a few other buttons and things which all move and make different sounds and kept my daughter entertained for ages.
We bought it when she was 6 months old and, like other reviewers, we found that the lowest setting wasn't low enough so we had to improvise using a plank of wood slotted into the groove to make a new setting. Not very convenient when we wanted to collapse it down and transport it! Also, it took me, my husband and his dad quite a while to figure out how to put it together in the first place.
However, that said, the amount of entertainment my daughter got out of it outweighed these problems and it helped her strengthen her legs for walking so I would say this was definitely a worthwhile buy.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I wouldn't really reccomend this walker unfortunately

I was quite disappointed with this baby walker as it just hasn't performed as well as i'd hoped. I paid £40 for it for my son for Christmas and although it does look lovely it doesn't really suit its purpose as a baby walker since it hardly moves!

Firstly my sons feet don't touch the ground yet so i have to put a little cushion underneath his feet so that he can stand in it. The seat height is adjustable but still doesn't go low enough for his feet to touch the floor. Secondly the base of this walker is so heavy even i can barely push it around so goodness know how my son is supposed to walk in it! I wouldn't reccomend this walker unless you have wood flooring as it doesn't move on carpet at all.

The worst thing about this walker was how tricky it was to put together. First of all it looked as though i would be able to put it together easily as i started off ok, but when it came time to attach the seat part i was nearly tearing my hair out! In the end i had to get my partner to finish putting it together and even he struggled with it, the instructions that come with the walker are very poor. I certainly won't be removing the seat at anytime to clean it in case i can't get it back together! I'll just be wiping it down but i have noticed there is a ridge around the toy keyboard at the front that you just can't clean as there's no space to get into it so ours is already collecting baby sick and saliva, which isn't particularly hygenic and is already making the buttons stick after only a few days.

The walker does have a nice little toy part at the front which has different buttons for your baby to press on a keyboard and other little gadgets to play with. It also plays music and animal sounds and you can choose how loud you have the volume. The walker would be great if only it moved more easily and fitted the baby better.

Our baby is a "tall" 6 month old, however his legs dangle in mid-air when in this baby walker even on the lowst setting. Mothercare won't let you take it back once assembled, so check you baby fits it before you buy!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

brilliant walker - great value too !

We bought the Chicco DJ Walker from Mothercare for £39 a few months ago and our Daughter has had so much pleasure out of it.
The electronic sounds and lights are brilliant. We did have a little glitch with them when they seemed to have a mind of their own and made continuous sounds but found that our Daughter had spilt some water on it so we had to take it apart and dry it all out.. it now works perfectly ! The music unit can be removed and used independently and it comes with two straps so you can attach to a cot or pushcahir bumper bar. The seat unit then has a little tray that you can use for snacks etc.
The cotton seat part is removable and can be machine washed easily. it is nicely padded and easy to put child in and out of the walker. There are 2 heights on the unit so it will "grow" with your baby.
The colours and nice and bright and include yellow, blue and pink and green on the seat so it can be used by a girl or a boy.
The walker has swivel wheels and our baby leanrt very quickly how to steer around doorways, furniture etc and is very quick in her walker now ! There a little block on the underside so if a wheel drops over an edge the unit "grounds out" so no chance of baby toppling down steps etc.
We have used the walker inside and out on the patio and it has been easy for our daughter to move.
I would recommend this walker as it is good value for money.

          A lovely walker

This is a really nice walker and is a good price too.

I paid £35 for it which is quite reasonable for a walker like this as they don't seem to sell many nowadays so the choice is limited. I chose this one because it is nice and brightly coloured and is suitable for both boys and girls.

I think a baby walker is a must have and this one has been really good and sturdy. My son used to crash into things all the time in it and because it has a bumper bar around the bottom it limits his impact and the walker is still in perfect condition. It is very easy to clean as it is all plastic and the seat is padded and looks comfortable.

My son loved being in it and started using it from around 5 months. There are 3 height settings with this which is good because not all babies can reach if they are too high up so this was perfect and we changed the height as my son grew. My son didn't move much in it to start with but because of the activity tray on it with lights and sounds he was entertained and liked to just sit in it. Once he started moving around in it he loved and I think he like the independence. It went very well on our laminate flooring but not too fast.

I know some people worry about baby walkers making babies slower to walk but I can absolutely say that this was not the case for our son. He took his first steps at 10 months and I never had any concerns about safety when using it.

The only problem I came across was that when my son was about 9 months old he could get out of it and was sat on top of the play tray one day so I had to stop using it.

It did get plenty of use though so was definately great value for money and will be used for our next child. I would recommend this walker.

          i would recommend

When my daughter turned 8 months i looked into buying a Walker to help strengthen her legs ready for walking. I had a good look around and to be honest only chose the chicco walker because of the price. I picked it up from Mothercare for £40.00.

Once home i began assembling. It was very easy to put up as the majority of it was just clipping parts together. I did struggle to fit the seat on, it has clips which hold the seat on tight, these clips need to go into a slot and flip shut. I found it very hard and had to get my partner to do this bit. Once up i put my daughter straight in and she loved every minute. The playtray comes off and can be fastened to your babies pushchair. However it never stayed up right on my daughter pushchair so i never take it off any more. The tray itself has lots of activities. It has a book, steering wheel, keyboard, a spinning wheel and some beads. It has 3 different sound setting and each toy makes a noice to keep your baby entertained and some of the toys light up. The walker has a 3 height position so can adampt to your growing baby. The seat can come off to be washed which is very handy for messy little ones.

After a month or so the sound started going disorted and everntually stopped completely. I thought it was the batteries but after changing them it still made no sound. Every now and again it makes a faint distorded sound. Im very annoyed that it stopped working so quickly after purchase. After the problems i had with mothercare and my pushchair i honestly cant be bothered to try and return it. My daughter is perfectly happy with bombing across the floor with no sounds.

The colour sceme of the walker is for both boys and girls. It has a wide range of colour which makes it very attractive and appealing. Under the toy you fix on blocks with a rubber padding to stop your little one from escaping from a room. This is a big plus for me so i can leave the room and know my daughter is safe and where i put her. Also the walker has a wide body so if your baby hits into things the body hits and the seat and baby stay well away.

Overall i would recommened this Walker to all mums its just a shame mine seemed to brake so soon.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Useful with lots of stimulating activities

My partner and I bought this DJ walker for our son as, firstly, we found it on eBay locally for a good price, and secondly because it looked like fun, with all the music buttons etc.

Our boy does love playing in his and bashing all the buttons, which can either play jazzed-up nursery rhymes or sound effects (animal noises, drums etc). The buttons are back-lit with LEDS, and there are knobs to grab etc, so there's plenty to do. It has proved invaluable, either as entertainment while we wash up, or to sit and press all the buttons with him. He still gets a lot of enjoyment out of it.

As a walker I'd rate this as average. It works fine in on the lino in the kitchen, but at 8 months old he still does struggle in the carpeted living room. In fact he can only really get it to move by bouncing repeatedly, so it kind of jiggles along. I think maybe the whole thing is too big and bulky to be used for this purpose.

Another downside is that I don't think it has been tested with baby vomit! The buttons aren't particularly water-tight, and after puking on it one time the tunes all went hay-wire, and wouldn't stop! I had to dismantle and clean the electronics inside. Thankfully it worked once it had dried out, and hasn't happened since.

Overall we're pleased with this, and use it a lot. Maybe some improved seals on the buttons would be a good idea for future models.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Great activity tray but it doesn't work well on carpets and is difficult to clean.

From the other walkers I looked at before I bought this one, I think this is one of the more interesting ones. It has plenty of things for my son to play with (or slobber on), a keyboard that lights up and plenty of sounds.

Some things to consider before buying any walker however, are whether you have carpets or not. We do and he hasn't been able to move this one at all on carpet until recently (almost 8 months) when he has taken to bouncing along! So it is more an activity station than a walker for us, unless used in our kitchen.

One complaint about this, is that although the activity tray comes out (useful for cleaning under as well as using the tray underneath for snacks/toys), there is still a ridge that seems to collect dirt, baby sick etc that you just can't get to and it is a nightmare to clean, this also goes for the keyboard. A bbq skewer/baby wipe combination is generally what it takes to get most of the dirt out. It would be nicer if these baby toy manufacturers made things easier to wipe clean!

All in all a good item that keeps baby entertained, great for the stage where he wanted to be upright and looking at everything, yet couldn't quite sit unaided as I got a bit of a break. Just don't expect it to work too well on carpets or be easy to clean.
