A customer of mine bought my son this when he was first born, The Blossom Farm range is a cute range of animals with many products under the banner of Blossom Farm, most of them are very good products, I can't think of any that are bad a few are average.
This is a long mat with pictures of various animals spread out around the mat, each animal has another head, this time a 3-d one that, when pressed, makes the animal noise. Generally very good noises and entertaining to the children, the exception to this is the cow, which made a very feeble noise which sounded like no cow I'd ever heard.
I doubt that I need to say that my son was too young for a play mat, although the animal faces caught his interest. It wasn't until he started trying to crawl that I got the whole mat out. He would love trying to reach the next animal head when I set off the noises, I think to be honest that the desire to reach these animals heads and re-decapitate them spurred him on and got him crawling quickly.
My eldest son also enjoyed playing a kind of lotto game with the mat, I would make an animal noise and my son would find the correct head and stick it on the mat, setting off the noise and exciting the baby into trying to crawl again. This got him involved with playing with his boring, "but Mum he doesn't do anything", baby brother, don't get me wrong he loves him very much but at the time he was fairly boring for a bouncing off the walls elder brother.
The material is incredibly soft and very pleasant to handle, so for a baby lying on it I can only imagine that it's a nice experience. For a learner crawler it must be much better to try and crawl and end up driving your face into an incredibly soft surface rather than a normal carpet or laminate etc.
This is a good product and a nice base for a learner crawler to begin exploring. My son would probably have not gotten this if it wasn't for a very generous customer and I think that that would have been a shame. I think this is the play may you should buy.
I love the blossom hill range of products available from Early Learning Centre – they are so appealing. Our twins were given a blossom hill play mat as a Christmas present and I’ve got to say I think it was their best present. The mat is much thicker than your usual play mat and is made up of various soft fabrics. It features a sheep, a cow, a pig and a duck – each one is made of different textures with squeaky and crinkly bits – the duck has a mirror under its beak. Each animal also makes its own sound when the word is touched (moo, baa, quack and oink). Our kids love this mat as it is soft and interesting – they used to set of the sounds by accident but now they actually mean to do it – It often sounds like a farmyard in our sitting room! I would recommend this playmat to anyone thinking of buying one – I don’t know the price unfortunately as it was a present.
This is a bright and colourful mat, which will be appealling to young babies. I used this extensively when my baby was small, just as somewhere nice for my baby to lay. There are a range of textures for a younger baby to explore, and older babies will enjoy the animal noises of the familiar blossom farm characters. The play value for an older baby would be limited though. My baby is now 13 months, and I still use the mat as a soft lining to the play pen, or as an impromtu picnic blanket. I have to admit that the animal sound generators were soon removed though, as they can become annoying, and my baby kept startling herself as she moved around. A nice bright addition to any nursery!
I saw this mat on shopping city and they gave it a good review. It has the blossom farm characters on pig/sheep/cow and duck. There are crinkly ears and different textures to feel, squeaky noses, there is a mirror under the ducks leathery beak and each character makes the relevant sound when you press either : Moo, Quack, Oink or Baa. The sounds are clear and you dont have to press them really hard. It washes really well, even though they say not to wash in the machine (probably due to the squeakers ?) I washed it on a wool cycle at a very low temperature and it came out like new. The noises are easily removed if they do happen to get on your nerves, and the mat comes with the batteries which is brilliant. Its very brightly coloured and my son loves it. Its quite expensive but its also something that is not going to be bought out for a while and then put away forever, it is used every playtime in our house.
