Advantages: Bright and colourful, lovely textures and cute animals

Disadvantages: Brash music - drives you potty in the end!

Before my little one arrived, I was lucky enough to be loaned a whole host of baby items and this lovely baby gym was part of the bundle.

At first I was a bit flummoxed by, what is before you set it up, quite an array of bits and pieces flapping everywhere, but when it is assembled, the structure is actually quite strudy.

As you can probably guess by the name, this "rainforest" gym is full of colourful animals and jungle sounds. The mat is lovely and soft and squishy, and has a silky, very tactile edge and it feels a very safe surface to put your baby in.

At the centre of the gym in the top is the central light and sound display - my little one used to be almost mesmerised by the changing lights. The sounds vary between relaxing jungle sounds (crickets etc etc) and loud (and I mean loud) nursery rhymes. The song that sticks in my mind is the one where the monkey sled down the elephants trunk - you know the one I mean!!! I can't bear the tune now as I seemed to hear it all the time when my boy was little!

The animals are cute - especially the lovely soft and squishy giraffe and are really brightly coloured to attract your babies attention. There are hoops dotted around the gym so you can move the animals around to change the scenery. At the top there are two butterflies which spin around in a circular fashion, which look cute, but used to annoy my boy as he got a little mobile as he would try to grab them, but not be able to quite reach.

As you would expect by a fisherprice toy, the gym has been designed with all sorts of different textures and colours for little ones to enjoy and learn from. The music goes on for 20 mins and then there is another 20 mins of jungle sounds, though my boy never lasted in there longer than a few minutes at a time, but then that was my boy!

I was really impressed by this baby gym - great entertainment and looks cute - though not subtle - will stand out in any room!! It is also unisex which is a big bonus, for parents intending to have more than one child. It retails at £49.99 from Amazon, which seems a lot, but is about the going rate I think for one of these items. I found it really useful to have a safe place to put my boy for a few minutes, when I needed a coffee. I'll be honest, the music does wear you down after a while, but my boy seemed to enjoy it so who was I to complain?

Summary: Great unisex baby gym - just buy yourself some earplugs!
