Once again I revert to my review of Fisher Price Rainforest Products this time its the rainforest gym.
Currently retailling at £49.99 on Amazon the general retail price is £54.99 but I managed to pick one up for £30 on ebay which is only 5 months old and in excellent condition.
As with most products they do require assembly and full instructions are included within the package. The gym is packed away in a clear plastic bag with a cardboard insert advertising the product. Luckily for us when we bought the item second hand it was already put together so we only really had to part assemble the gym.
~*~What is the Rainforest Gym~*~
The gym is 32.5" length x 32.5" width and 20" height. The gym consists of a play mat which has a satin edge and ribbon all the way around with the animals of the rainforest decorating the main part of the mat. There are several different textures on the mat for baby to investigate including a crinkly rainforest leaf, zebras tail and ribbon in the lion's mane.
There is also an arch which clips into the slits in each corner to make t upright, it is important that the plastic bottom on each arch lies flat as it can be very uncomfortable if baby rolls onto the quite hard plastic.
The arches consist of two contrasting designs a rainbow and a leaf material they are held together at the top by a large plastic control which plays music and lights to keep baby entertained.
There are four fabric leaves that come out of the top of the column/light panel and my husband was disappointed that these do not move as they just stay static on the product.
Hanging down from the panel are some butterflies which baby can reach out to which if you have the controls set to baby activated will generate the music and lights.
The gym has plenty of loops where you can reposition the toys that come with the gym and add another level of interaction for baby.
The toys include:-
Colourful Toucan that jingles
Red plastic mirror
Blue elephant with a spinning rattle to the bottom
Monkey that hangs down from a loop
Circular rattle
Spinning bird
All of the toys are brightly coloured and really keep my little boy entertained and its precious watching his reaction when he swings out at one of the toys and starts the music and lights he is transfixed!
The gym is not too big and can be packed away quite easily to be taken round to Nan and Grandad's house to keep him occupied whilst out and about.
~*~Using the Mat~*~
The mat is powered by 3 x "C" batteries which are inserted into the base of the giraffe.
A screwdriver is required to loosen the screws and access the battery compartment here you insert the batteries and then replace and secure the compartment.
The control panel is at the top centre of the gym and contains a speaker and 2 switches.
The first switch will turn the gym on using low volume or you can push the switch all the way along to have high volume.
The second switch turns the sounds on and there are 3 options for you to choose from;
Select music, lights and rainforest sounds by sliding the switch onto the music note symbol.
Select nature sounds and lights only by selecting the leaf symbol.
For baby activated music and lights then you need the rattle shaped symbol and this will then activate the music and lights when baby hits one of the butterflies or moves on the mat.
*~*My Overall Opinion*~*
I purchased this item after reading a lot of positive reviews and a lot of my friends had previously used this item with their children and said it was one of the best purchases that they had made.
The price is a little of putting but with most baby toys they do incur a high price tag so when we saw this for a £25 reduction on ebay and in excellent conditon we decided to invest the money saved on other items for baby.
I cannot recommend this product enough it really is excellent, the lights and sounds are ideal for baby and he loves playing with all the different toys. The bright colours are fantastic and at night we just scoop it up and put it in his nursery until he is ready to play with it again.
A must have item and although we didn't pay full price I would think it is well worth the money and a worthwhile investment.
