This is one of the best toys I bought my baby! I got this on Amazon for £45, and this was a great price as I had seen it in a few shops like Boots and Mothercare for nearly £60. This rainforest gym is a play mat which has two bars going to either corner, to create a little 'den', and when your baby lies on the mat and looks up its suppose to look like he's in the jungle.
The actual mat that your baby lies on is nice and soft and feels really comfortable, my son often falls asleep on it for a nap after playing in this gym for a while. It is covered in colourful animals, the sun, trees etc. This mat is great for when your baby is having tummy time, as there is just so much to look at, and so much bright colour to keep them interested.
On the edges of the mat are soft material hooks, which you can attach toys to, so your baby can reach out to them whilst on their tummy. This mat has really helped my little man roll over, as he rolled over from his front to his back for the first time last week whilst stretching to reach for a toy! This mat detatches from the rest of the gym, which is so handy, it is machine washable and it can go in the dryer, my son is sick all over it pretty much every day!
The mat in one corner has a huge green leaf, which crinkles and my son loves this noise, he is always touching and pulling it. The bars slot into the mat in each corner really easily, but I don't think a baby would work out how to get them off so they are a good design, the bars have a large circle on the bottom of them, and there is a slit just like on a coat where a button would slot in, these bars just slot in the slit on the mat just like a button.
In the middle where the bars meet is where the music and lights are, there is a button on the top to activate them. There are a few different settings, you can have loud music or there is a quieter setting. You can have music, or jungle sounds. There is a setting for the music to be on continuously, or a setting that only comes on when the mat is moved, which is for the baby to learn that when they shake the mat they can make it make a noise. My son is only 6 months old and doesn't understand to do this yet, so we have the music on continuously when he's on the mat, which runs for about 15 - 20 minutes before it goes off.
The jungle sounds are really relaxing to listen to, my son often falls asleep to this. The lights are in the middle where the bar meets too, and they just flash different colours, my son always watches these, he's fascinated with lights! The only thing is with this mat, is you can't have just music or just lights, you have to have them on both together. That's the only thing I can criticise this mat on, it is perfect other wise!
There are hooks on the bars for toys to hang on, so they dangle down above your baby for them to play with. This mat comes with toys but there are extra hooks to add your own toys, and you can remove the toys that it comes with. In one corner of the mat there is a big giraffe which my son loves looks at, and in its mouth is a mirror dangling down, which is my sons favourite toy in this gym.
There is also a parrot where you can spin the bottom of it, a set of leaves on a ring, and an elephant which has a ball with beads in it that you can spin too, and a soft monkey. Also at the top are two butterflies which spin when your baby moves them. The toys are very good quality and we often take them off and attach them to his pram or car seat when we go out as he loves them so much.
This mat requires 3 C batteries for the music and lights, and in 6 months I have only had to change them twice, and he uses this everyday. I would highly recommend this mat, it is has been such a good toy and I can see my son playing on it for a long time yet! He absolutely loves it, and it can be transported from room to room so easily, the bars fold together too, to transport easier and store away flat. I would not be without this mat, it is expensive but an amazing toy for a baby!
Summary: An excellent buy!
