This is the second swing I have purchased for my son, 2 months. The main reason I bought it was because my son loved his other swing so much I wanted another one for upstairs as I was sick of carting the original one up and down. However.. my son now rejects his original swing in favour of this one! I think this is because the motion is much smoother. Initially I was disappointed that this only had 2 speed settings and I believed even the slowest one to be a little too much. How wrong I was, he loves the strongest setting! Obviously its a great benefit that this converts next to a rocker and then to a toddler seat. Word of caution on this though, over the last week or so my son much prefers to be seated upright and so I think this may soon become redundant. Despite this overall much better value for money as with the originally swing I was seduced by gimics (ipod connector!) and with this one I appreciate the fluid motion, the ability to have the music on low and no motor noise to the swing. The best judge of all wouldn't be without it!
I bought this a few months before my son was born and started using it about a month or so after his birth. It cost my just a shy over £100 but this was out of my wife catalogue. It currently retails in shops for between £80 and £90
Its suitable from birth up to about 18kg. It takes 4 size D batteries last a decent amount of time given that we used it for about 2 hours a day. The play arch which is detachable, comes with two toys which are attached with Velcro but we did buy a few others. (a rattle one and a star mirror) from out ELC shop.
The swing its self has two different speed setting and five different song with two volume setting. The chair detaches from the swing part so it can become a rocking chair. But it also has a kick stand to stop it from rocking when feeding or when asleep etc. The frame is every sturdy and feel like it would take the upper weight limit. Obviously it comes as a pact to build your self and although i didn't have much trouble with it, it might be a bit tricky for some.
As a personal experience, for the first few month, we used the swing more for the swinging action to calm and send our son to sleep more then keeping him entertain, it wasn't until after the three month mark did he really start to pay more attention to the music and by the nearly the five month mark was grabbing and play arch which is part of it. Once he began to crawl it again it became just a swing to send him to sleep.
By the time he was full toddling, we had put the swing part away and my son just used it as a chair which rocked when he did sit still. Eventually he did try to take it every with him so we bought a actual chair for him and put it away.
I would consider it a a good buy with the the younger babies especially with the rocker instead of trying to rock the in a pram or bouncer etc.
I have a fisher price swinger for my little one and he loves it.
The swing has 2 speeds of which it swings and you can have the music either on or off either loud or louder (but there isn't much volume control which I find quite handy on childrens toys!) .
The seat detatches from the frame which is great for my little one just to sit in to be fed, when he is older he can use it as a rocking chair (hence the name rocker swinger) and there is a bar that folds out from underneath the seat to tip it back a little and stop it rocking and makes it a reclined chair.
We paid around £80 for the swing but its great! It helps my little one drift off if he is tired or he loves to sit in it and watch how it works!!!
The cover on the seat can be fully removed which is great as it can get dirty quite quickly especially is you use it to feed your baby in. It is quite easy to take off and put back on.
The swing also comes with a toy arch and two removable toys which can be hung on the arch on taken off and played with separately.
The swing frame also folds so that the legs are together making it much easier to store.
The functions that the swing has does drain the batteries very quickly and they are the dear sort, the biggest round ones (sorry cant think of the code).
Out of all the baby swings I have come across, I would say this is the best one but if I were able to improve anything, it would be to make more volume control available (instead of LOUD or LOUDER!) and I would somehow improve how easy it is to store, making it folds in different places etc. as it is quite big even when folded.
I have recently had my second child and I have started putting him in it and loves it just as much as my first son! and it still works as good as when we first got it!
Suitable from birth. 2 soothing speeds, 5 songs with volume control and a removable toybar with 2 soft removable toys. Swing suitable for a maximum weight of 11kg, rocker for maximum of 18kg.
