Advantages: Machine washable, Very supportive, Encourages sitting

Disadvantages: Hard to blow up., Quite large when inflated., The gym makes it impossible to move around.

There are two version of the playnest - the simple nest and the one with a baby gym attached. I bought the one with the gym although I would advise other parents to go for the simpler model.

A play nest is basically an inflated ring that is covered with fabric. Baby can sit or lie in the middle of the ring in safety and fully supported. The fabric is brightly coloured with farmyard pictures on it - very appealing to the young eye. The ring has a number of multi-sensory features for the baby to explore. The sheep has a wooly coat that little hands like to stroke. The ducks beak can be squeezed to produce a quacking noise. The scarecrow wears a tie that scrunches when touched. And my son's favourite - the stable doors open and closes to reveal a horse!

The gym is a canopy that goes over the nest. It has a mirror directly above the nest where baby can admire his good looks. There is a parrot that attaches to the canopy with a bell in it for baby to hit. There is also a butterfly with wings that crackle when touched. But the favourite in our house was the sun that played 'You are my sunshine'. All of these are detachable and can therefore be offered as hand toys.

The problem that I found with the gym was that it made the nest impossible to move from room to room. I therefore detached it and found that I could carry the nest all over the house and therefore my baby could play as I washed up etc.

The ring takes an awful lot of blowing up but it is worth it in the end. You adjust the amount of air in order to achieve the correct level of support for your baby. The nest also encoured my son to work on his sitting in a safe environment. The nest is fully machine washable too.

It does however take up quite a lot of space when inflated and it is certainly not possible to deflate it after every use. This item is suitable from birth and my son used it until about 7 months old when he managed to escape! <

The play nest without the gym costs just £24.99 compared to the one with gym costing £39.99.

Thanks for reading.

Nice op. These are great aren't they? My daughter loves her 'simple' play nest - and it's the only place she can sit by herself without my having to be ready to catch her when she topples! I was disappointed that we hadn't got the play gym version - but your point about moving it about is a good one.
