I agree with the general consensus that this is a good, if not great buy. My son has used the detached chair on a daily basis since birth and the swing has come in very handy from around the three month mark. In all fairness it is the swinging and vibrate motions that he responds to the most, the music and bird sounds he can take or leave. The effectiveness does vary depending on his moods though, as I would imagine it would with lots of babies, sometimes he'll enjoy it for 30mins plus, sometimes just a few minutes. But when he takes to it, he does so incredibly well.
However my one word of caution would be with regards to its size. We live in a small-ish flat and the full swing can take up a lot of room. Fortunately we have a spare room where we can keep the chair at night and when we have visitors round, but for those in a similar situation I would bare the 70cmx95 (aprox) dimensions in mind (plus additional room for the swing to reach back) when purchasing, especially if you have other children running around.
We saw the Graco Advantage Swing when it was on sale on the internet a few months before our son was born and you have to look around for the best price as I bought it for about £60 which was quite cheap. It has six speed settings and quite a few different tunes. It also has a volume button which you can turn up and down. My son first went in it when he was a few weeks old and it was great as he fell asleep after a few minutes and stayed asleep for about twenty minutes (which was quite long for him). Make sure you are careful putting a newborn in there as you have to put it on a low setting as the highest setting goes quite fast. He is now six months old and still goes in there, however, the straps do not fit around him anymore, so he just has to go in there with the tray keeping him in place between his legs. He no longer sleeps in there, but now has fun trying to touch the toys.
This swing is amazing. I love it. This was an impulse purchase from toys r' us and it cost £49.99 as it was in the 50% off sale. You can buy this swing almost anywhere and the price varies but I would say that is generally between £49.99 and £99.99. They even let us have another £5 off as we had to have the last one of the swings which was the display one. They told us that they had sold over 300 of the swings in a fortnight!
We got it home and even though we didn't have instructions (because we had the display swing) we had no problems putting it together. My daughter is 10 weeks old and has had teeth coming through for the last few weeks so is very irritable however if I just put her in the swing - turn on the music and turn the swing on within about 30 seconds she is happy just sat there swinging and staring the little animals on the mobile which comes with the swing. We first bought the swing for her when she was just 4 weeks and as it has an adjustable back which you can put into 3 different positions so that it is perfectly safe for very tiny babies. It has a number of different tunes that it will play in an order (which I now know off by heart as it is on for hours everyday!!) you can even just put the music on when they aren't using the swing to help them to get to sleep. The swing has 6 speed settings which I thought was brilliant. There is a little tray at the front which is very easy to clean - the only thing that lets this swing down is the little toy attached to the tray (my daughter just looks at it as if to say "mummy do you really think that I am going to find that remotely exciting").
The covers on the swing are washable and the swing is well padded and is very comfortable and it also has restraining straps.
I would recommend this to any parent or parent to be - Graco I really do love you!!
I still have this and I am planning to use it again for baby number two! :)
After spending night after night rocking my first born in his car seat or in my arms to stop him crying I decided to purchase a Graco Electronic Swing when I was pregnant with my 2nd, now 7 weeks old! I bought it from www.letsbuyit.com for £65 and Im so glad i did! She is soothed instantly by its music and relaxing swinging motion. It has 5 speeds and the has a timer up to 40 minutes. Its design is similar to a car seat and is connected to an A frame. The seat has 3 different positions and is suitable from birth. Also comes with a playtray and toys! It allows you to keep baby in motion without having to keep going back and forth to swing them.
My son hates to be put down, he loves cuddles and being im my arms all day long ... and as you can imagine this stops me from getting much done around the house. I can quite easily get him to sleep in my arms but the moment I try to put him down its as if he knows and so he wakes up almost automatically. then I discovered the graco advantage swing ... as recommended by a fellow dooyooer. It was a bit pricey at £99 from mail order catologue ... but I put him in it to test it out whilst he was still wide awake and within ten minutes th rocking motion had lulled him in to a cosy and happy sleep. He stayed asleep for over an hour and thats longer than I have ever known him to sleep in the day. The graco play swing runs on 4 D size batterys and rocks the chair itself, it has 3 slow speeds and three high speeds, 15 nursery rhyme tunes and four levels of volume, and a timer so you dont have to turn it off yourself. I start on the highest speed and loudest volume and as he gets more sleepy i slow it down and silence the music to save batterys. I thought the batterys might not last very long but my first set lasted about 3 weeks and they were a cheap make I had never heard of and payed £1.99 for them so when I next buy duracell i am positive they will last for well over a month. Anyone whos baby is like mine should really consider investing in this swing as it really does help, anyone who wants one just for their child to sleep in as a safe and comfy place to leave them it is also really useful for them too. A excellent buy all round.
Salvation for me was an impulse buy in John Lewis four days ago........ I had heard that this swing was a good thing to get and had seen quite a few people asking to buy it, but wasn't sure if my son would like it as he doesn't like sitting in his rocker. It was on sale so I thought 'what have I got to lose?' I brought it home and I put him in it.......it was bliss!!!!!! He normally refuses to lie down by himself for more than 5 minutes at a time but happily sat in here for 45 mins!!!! I hadn't even bought the batteries yet, but this swing is so great I could very easily push him in it and it takes ages to stop!! The swing itself is very nice, it is the shape of a car seat but is shorter, allowing even a very small baby to kick their legs about. It has head holding cushions to support young babies' heads and is nicely padded. It has various rocking speeds and a music box, which I hate but he is transfixed by!! It also has two toys on the tray which he has not shown interest in yet, being only 6 weeks old!! The day I bought it, I was so impressed I wanted to run and write a review immediately, but I have restrained myself until now, and I must say this must be the best thing I have bought for him so far!!! I used to have to give him his dummy when he grizzled - now I just pop him in the chair.... Even getting him to sleep is not a problem, I dont have to sit there rocking him, he will drop asleep in it. I really cannot say enough about it!! I would not hesitate to recommend this to any mother in fact, my only regret is that I waited so long to get one!!!
When my son was born he would only go to sleep if you constantly rocked him in your arms. After a few weeks this began to get quite difficult so my mum saw this swing and tried to buy one for ne. Everywhere she went they were sold out and in the end we ordered it from babydirect on the internet. Although it was quite expensive (£100) it has been extremely useful. There are 3 different speed settings and music that can play and different volumes. You can also position the seat to full lie back or upright for when they get a bit older. My son was always falling asleep in at and now 7 months old still enjoys it. Even though it only goes upto a weight of 25lbs, so my son will soon be out of it, I still think it was one of the best buys. The batteries have never even run out! I am definately going to save it for when I have another baby.
I wasn’t sure whether I should buy a swing or not, the mothering population seems to be divided on whether it’s a fantastic buy or a pure waste of money. Being such an expensive item it was not a decision I wanted to make without listening to people’s experiences and in the end I decided that it was worth buying. The pack is very large so you really need a car to transport it and you have to put it together yourself. I found the instructions very easy to follow and on the whole it was easy to assemble taking no more than about ¾ of an hour. The seat has a soft cover that is removable for washing and a 3-point harness, which is easily fastened and unfastened. It has four reclining positions from fully upright to fairly flat, I found it easy to move it even with a baby in the swing and they are secure, latching into grooves. There is a tray on the front which has a leg separator in the middle and is opened by unlatching and swinging open. You can choose from 3 speeds by pressing a button on the control panel and you can opt to play music at different volumes or just switch it off. I’ve found it to be very sturdy and it has a gentle fluent swing. Personally I found it a life saver especially in the early weeks of my daughters life. As a baby she would not allow me to put her down for a minute during the day and I think I may have gone insane if it was not for two items of which this is one. After only a few minutes in the swing she would doze off for anything between 10 minutes and half an hour. As she got older she was able to play with the toys on the front, a windmill and a rolling rattle. Can be an expensive mistake if your child doesn’t like it but I’ve never been so glad I bought a product as this. She is too old for it now but it dismantled well and in a matter of 10 minutes for storage until the next one should arrive! Costs around £80 (you can get different versions at d
We bought the Graco swing for our daughter when she was about 3 weeks old. It's been great for her. It has 6 swing levels, and 3 different volumes for the music (however, the music can get on your nerves after a while!) It's good when she's just a little crabby and can't get to sleep, and because the seat is adjustable, it reclines nicely for a newborn. We've only had 2 problems with it. One, that her foot got caught when we closed down the tray in front of her, and two, that there are some sharp edges that she grabbed onto one time when we lifted her out which resulted in a cut hand. Now that we're aware of those things, there haven't been any further problems.
This has been invaluable, we bought it second hand and the best thing is that it works rocking my baby off to sleep, it has a fully reclined position which is ideal for this. It is sturdy and safe, the harness feels very secure. There are 3 speeds(possibly more on the new model) which is useful as the higher speeds get her to sleep and the lower speeds keep her slumbering. The disadvantage of any rocker system is that you need to supervise the baby at all times and cannot move her once she is in it so if you want to say go do the washing up you have to take her out, but this swing folds easily and is pretty light to carry around the house. I find the one tune it plays annoying and monotonous although my baby loves it, but you can switch it off and the latest model has a selection of tunes which might be better. A feature missing is a head hugger (although it is possible it went missing before I got it as mine was second hand).
To comfort your baby this full featured swing includes a curved frame design that mimics a mothers arms, comforting your baby. The removable bouncer seat becomes an in-home carrier that can be taken with you around the house. This full featured bouncer includes a one hand flip-up tray with two interactive Mix 'n Move toys to keep baby entertained along with the 2 speed vibration which calms and relaxes them for a soothing experience. The overhead toy bar offers visual stimulation with charming soft toys that are also detachable. With a deluxe, upgraded seat pad this swing will cuddle your infant with its new design and additional head support.
