Advantages: Can soothe an irritable baby

Disadvantages: Difficult to lift baby out.

My daughter first tried her graco wind-up swing when she was two months old and was beaming with smiles as soon as we set the swing going. The only problem was that the even the slow speed was much to fast for her so we had to gently rock her ourselves. The toy bar in front of her was just right to hook her favourite toy Larry onto so that she could 'talk' to him as she went.

The harness was quite easy to do up around her but it wasn't as easy to get her in as you had to get her past the top bar and also her legs through the leg holes at the same time. It was very much a precision thing at first but practise made perfect until we had to get her out again.

As the swing was still moving slightly, it had it even more difficult to get her out. Her feet always seemed to catch on the leg holes and however gentle and careful I was she always seemed to get annoyed and start shouting at me. So, having put her in the swing to soothe her I then needed something else to soothe her with when I got her out.

I would recommend buying an open-topped swing as I would think that it would be easier but only if the swing is going to be in the same room as you and is not to free you hands to do other things as they are not ever so sturdy and baby's should be supervised in them.

The swing cost me £39.99 plus VAT from Makro and is a godsend when me arms are about to fall off but is not perfect at any rate.

Maybe a more expensive model would be better.
