Advantages: Great fun, keeps baby happy, comfortable, lots to do
Disadvantages: price, takes up a lot of room, uses batteries
I decided to buy one of these with my 3rd baby after wanting one with my first two children but not being prepared to pay the hefty price for one!
The leapfrog learn and grove activity station is suitable from 6-15 months (max weight 25lb and max height 85cm) although once my daughter was walking she hated being in it as she wanted to walk around! It is very large and bulky and quite heavy too so make sure you have room for it as it cant be folded away somewhere. It has a plastic base and top and a fabric seat which is removable and washable and can spin 360 degrees. Baby sits in the seat and can use her feet to spin around and play with the activities.
There are 2 different modes the station can be put in - learning which teaches numbers, letters, colours and numbers and Music which plays different sounds and musical instruments. The activities are as follows..
A disco ball, microphone with teething edge, light up piano, dj station and jukebox with turning page. All the activites when touched produce music and/or lights. There is also a volume switch which can be turned to low or high and an on/off switch. It also requires 3 AA batteries which are not supplied.
My baby girl absolutely loved this toy, once she could support her upper body she would be entertained for a good half an hour playing with all the activities and spinning herself around. Some babys love to be stood up so this is a great alternative to a baby walker or bouncer. There are 3 different heights so can be used as your baby gets taller but as my daughter was quite small she couldnt reach the ground until she was 7 months. It is great for improving their body strength and my daughter was walking at 11 months despite being 2 months premature! Once she was walking she refused to use the station but still plays with the toys without being sat inside of it.
It really is a great toy for an independant baby and brilliant for mums to grab 10 minutes peace or catch up on some housework although babies should never be left unattended in the activity station.
The price is the only downside as it does cost around £80 which is expensive for something thast may only be used for 6 months at the very most! Mothercare price is £79.99 , Amazon £63.99, toys r us £79.99. It can usually be bought much cheaper from Ebay though, i have seen them sell on there for around £30. Your local newspaper or freeads is also a great place to try.
Summary: A great toy but probably not worth £80.
