Lindam Baby Bouncer
Advantages: Lets you have 5 minutes and hands free
Disadvantages: A little awkward to get the baby inside (unless I'm missing something here!)
This is a review of the Lindam baby bouncer we bought for my daughter as she constantly wants to be on her feet and any activity is a welcome break for our arms!
Price and colour
The bouncer cost around £20 from Argos and is bright blue, yellow with a red body holster. It reminds me of Stewie Griffin's outfit from Family Guy which just makes me laugh every time she is in it!
Putting it together
I missed out on this bit as my sister grabbed the box off me and after a few maneouveurs with the straps had it all put together. She assures me that it was simple.
Important to the correct usage is that the straps are adjusted to your baby's height or more specifically leg length. Their toes need to touch the floor so they can jump up and down but you don't want them fully on the floor or they will just hang there in limbo!
The key to getting this activity right is all in the setting up. Firstly, your door frame needs to be even on both sides for it to fit safely. This was fine in our house but we could only find one door in my parent's place that suited, which is not good when you want to keep your eye on them whilst in the bouncer.
Watch out for their head!
When putting the baby into the sling harness it is a bit awkward and I have to drag a chair over for the job so I can use both hands and keep my balance. The clip needs to go on the door frame first and then baby into the harness seat. There may be a better way to do this but sitting down works for me. As they need to sit in the sling, have their arms between the hanging straps and then velcroed adjustable around the back so they are comfortable, finally clipped the sides together and they are in. The hanging structure is an upside down Y shape and has been known to clonk her on the head a bit as we are getting her in so watch out for that one. Luckily it's plastic so she just ignores it!
And now about the noise
As the title suggests, this is not a silent aide. Think bad bed springs and you've got it so when she's jumping up and down, you've guessed it, it sounds a bit like someone's going for it in the bed department lol!
My daughter loves going in the baby bouncer and will let me know when she has had enough. She generally hangs between the kitchen and dining room and the cats whip through her legs on their way in and out and she finds this highly entertaining. If I sing and do bouncing actions to her she joins in and is quite comfortable. I have to watch the door is fully open and out of the way and that she is hanging in the middle of the door frame to avoid any trapped fingers etc.
Also good is the fact that all the harness and straps are fully washable and I have been pleased to throw it in the washing machine to freshen up or remove dribble etc and it's come out like new and dried well.
Aside from the noise, there are a few things to mind. The head clonk upon insertion, socks on her feet to avoid any hurt on the floor runner that divides the room. There is some school of thought that this may not be good for their hips if used too early or for too long so it's not a device to be overused.
As my daughter can easily turn to face either way which she loves, it gives her some independence however it can mean the main strap gets twisted repeatedly so one to keep your eye on. I made her really cry once when untangling it too fast (think I gave her motion sickness) but gently does it and it's all part of the game.
I think the colours are pretty bad on this item and whilst it is uni sex I would have liked more colour options. I think there are many similar items that do the same job on the market.
If you have a baby and are struggling to find activities, I'd recommend one of these. Don't pay too much for it like I probably did though! I honestly think this had helped to get my daughter on her feet early and it's a good energetic exercise to wear her out a bit. Just make sure you fit it with caution and take your time making sure the baby is sitting comfortably before they begin bouncing as the straps can become a little tangled if not careful. It's not a babysitter: I would not leave my baby out of sight in this contraption in case she became distressed so supervise at all times.
