“ Brand: Mamas & Papas / Type: Play Mats „
This brightly coloured, flower shaped playmat has three detachable toys and plays two tunes when the petals on the mat are pressed. It also is padded and has a raised back support hence the name sit and snuggle play mat. It sounds great so why only give it one star.
Firstly the actual mat area is quite small, my daughter only fitted on the central piece until about 8 weeks old then she needed her head propped up on the raised petals or her feet were hanging over the edge. Although it is advertised as allowing baby to sit up she never looked comfortable on these raised petals and when she did lie back on them she was looking at the ceiling and was unable to see the activity bar.
The toys did keep her entertained until about 10 weeks old but now she doesn't like it at all but she will still play on friends play mats. The plus side is the toys are removable but only have a small velcro tab so cannot be attached to prams/ pushchairs.
The main downside though is because the mat is padded it is sponge clean only, I think this is a silly idea as the inevitable dribble ad baby sick do not come out properly.
When I purchased this item it was in the sale at £27 instead of £49 and I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. I notice it has reduced in pricenow but I still would not recommend it to other parents.
I was given one ot these play gyms for my six week old boy & am on the whole unimpressed. On the plus side the gym is super soft and snuggly, meaning baby is comfortable & supported which is good (if like mine) your baby happens to fall asleep while playing. There aren't a great deal of activities (compared to such as fisher price, tiny love or baby einstein gyms), but just watching the dangly toys is enough to keep small babies amused anyway. On the downside, this gym doesn't satisfy now that my little boy is 14 weeks old - he likes to kick energetically at the bar, and being only a single bar, the whole thing collapses over leaving him frustrated. Much better to get a gym that incorporates two overlapping bars for greater stability. Overall the gym is expensive for what it is. If you're going to pay this much, then go for a gym that will see your baby through for longer. Go for such as Fisher Price rainforest gym which can be altered to accomodate small babies lying on their backs, through to sitting babies who need greater stimulation.
