Advantages: Sturdy, good looking, fun to play with bricks
Disadvantages: None
My little girl is in that inbetween stage where she is pulling herself up and cruising but cannot walk unaided yet. With that in mind we decided to buy her a walker to get her moving and satisfy her desire to be standing at all moments and still have something to hold on to. I love wooden toys as I think they look really classic and withstand lots of play and so with this in mind I bought her the Mothercare wooden walker with bricks. This is such a classic toy as I think all my little girl's friends have this as well but it really stand the test of time and is a good walker.
The walker itself is quite simple. There is a base unit which has four wheels and then there is a handle which is attached to the side of the base unit and comes up to a handle which extends the whole way along the walker. I think this is good as it allows your child to grip on well and gives them lots of space in which to put their little hands. The handle also has grooves in it which make it nicer to grip I think and is high enough that they are not bending over trying to hold onto the handle. This walker has such good stability and is quite sturdy which is really good when your little one is unsteady on their feet as I think it gives them and you confidence that the walker is not going to tip over. I think it's a bit sturdier than plastic ones and not as flimsy which I really like.
In the base unit there are a number of bricks of different shapes and sized which are really fun for your little on to play with. We got the girls version of the walker so the bricks are pink, yellow and green with spots on and some are square, some are rectangle and some are little rectangles. One of my little girls favourite games at the moment is to load the bricks in and out of the walker and then push off again and do it all over again so I think the bricks make a nice addition.
The wheels have little grips all over them and so they make this walker great for walking on slippy surfaces such as wooden floors as they grip in my opinion better than just plastic wheels would. As I've mentioned above we got the girls version so these wheels are pink as is the handle and the the base unit has pink and yellow sides. I believe you can also get it in a more neutral colour with primary colours such as blue and red. It really has a nice look to it and this is definitely a toy which will last a long time.
These walkers are available in Mothercare and generally cost in the £25 region but can be cheaper during their sale.
