My daughter was developing a bit of a 'clingy' attitude towards me as i was with her all day every day. I had been using a baby bouncer for her but as she got to about 6 months she was straining against the straps, trying to sit up and getting very frustrated every time I put her in it. So I went looking for a product which would allow me the freedom of being able to put her down while I did jobs around the house. I knew I needed to choose something which was light but sturdy. I wanted to be able to carry it around the house easily so I could move it to where i was working in the home. The Safari rock and walk allowed me to do just that. The rocker consists of a fabric seat which is soft but sturdy, the seat is attached very securely to the plastic surround. It then has a tray at the front which has a detachable activity centre. The activity centre does allow for noises and music if you insert batteries, but is equally interesting to baby without the batteries. The tray can also be used for offering finger foods after 6 months and i found it useful for lunch time feeds when it was just baby and me. The rocker is easy to put up and collapse and after a while I was able to do it one handed when needed. It has a safety catch underneath to prevent baby from accidentally collapsing the product. It was easy to convert to a rocker and I found that my daughter enjoyed the rocking motion. This is a great product for when baby wants a bit more independence but is not able to walk yet. It is really easy to clean and I found that using a damp cloth any marks on the seat came off really easily.
We bought this for my son when he was 6 months old, it cost about £50 and was from Kiddicare. It came in a huge box, and took quite a bit of time to put together (maybe that was just me been slow who knows!) On the bottom of the walker you have to fix some rubber stoppers which help prevent the walker from tipping over or becoming unbalanced. I found these really hard to assemble, so used a mallet and they soon went on. It took me about 45 minutes to assemble and put the batteries in the top play tray. My son loved this walker, the fact it is two in one and can be a walker and a rocker is a big bonus. Especially if you dont want them scooting about touching everything all the time! The interactive tray on the top is pretty basic, but they really do love it and play with it contently. The seat is well padded and secure, it was fiddly to get it into place when assembling so i should imagine it would be a bit awkward to remove and wash it if need be. The activity tray can be removed and the walker then acts as a table area for snacks etc. Its super easy to convert from walker function to rocking function and there is a padded board under the foot area to stop the baby sliding the walker about whiles in rocker function (also protects babies feet). I did however encounter a major problem with this walker, infact that much of a problem i ended up sending it back and swapping it for a differant brand. My son used to pull the activity tray of the table now and again, its only held on with suction cups and one day he pulled it off and the suction cup ripped away from the tray. Somehow it was still stuck to the walker and he pulled it off and put it in his mouth, very dangerous and extremely distressing to witness! Overall a brilliant little walker, however be careful with the suction cups on the activity tray.
My parents bought my Daughter this walker as a present due to it's dual function as a rocker and walker. Description from Amazon: WalknRock Easily converts from a walker to a rocker in a few seconds, it has a softly padded seat with backrest, a detachable musical electronic activity tray is included for babys entertainment, it is also height adjustable and it has a comfy padded footrest for when it is used in the rocker mode. Can be changed from walker to rocker and back in seconds! Height adjustable in 3 positions. Suitable from when your child can sit up unaided, walking to 30lb maximum in weight. My opinion: When my Daughter first used it, we put it on it's lowest height setting however, she was still a little short, so we left it in the rocker function for around one month. At first she was a little uncertain as to what to do in the rocker and really did not like the loud tunes played by the toy table (most toys have a volume adjustment but this item does not). I had to tape cotton wool to it until she got used to how loud it was. Now she loves it! There are three round buttons - each playing the sound of an animal before playing a well known tune. The peach button plays the sound of a cow follwing the tune of 'Oh Susanna.' The green button plays the sound of a dog with the tune of 'Oh My Darling Clementine.' Lastly blue button plays the sound of a cat with the 'Row your Boat' tune. There are two little bears - one on the left and one on the right hand side. You can twirl these around and one has three little rings at the bottom for the child to play with. My Daughter also liked to bite the bears. There is a peach coloured ball on the left hand that you can roll and on the right side there is a phone dial that can be turned with little fingers. There is a steering column in the front (not a round steering wheel but like a plane steering column) which when turned also turns the two round circles at the front (which has little bunnies on them). At the back of the walker there are two holders for bottles and one rectangular shaped. I have not used these for anything but can be used to hold things that you may need to hand. What I really like about this walker aside from it's dual function is that the play table comes off and it can be used as a feeding table - or a table for other toys to be played on. The teething problems that I initially had with this item was the two of the wheels were really stiff and I had difficulty moving the walker, let alone my Daughter being able to walk in it. The Customer Service department were very helpful though and sent replacement wheels which worked fine. My Daughter now whizzes around in it. The fabric can be taken off and washed with ease - which is very handy. In summary - it really is a lovely item and even I have not tired of the tunes yet and that is after 6 months of continuous use! I would certainly recommend it for a gift and it is most certainly worth the money.
