Advantages: Firm and supportive, lasts a long time, inexpensive, versatile
Disadvantages: None
I was given a breastfeeding pillow when my baby was born but it turned out to be poor quality, as it became saggy in places after only a few uses, so I assumed all baby pillows were like that. Then I was at a local breastfeeding group when someone handed me a bright red Widget pillow with animal patterns on it, and when I fed by baby on it my back and arms didn't feel tense at all like they usually did. So I see why this is a 'must have' item for feeding newborn babies and also for mums who have just given birth.
I bought my Widgey from Amazon for £12 at the time, though I believe it has gone down in price now. It came in a zipped up plastic packet, which is useful for packing the pillow away it when it is no longer needed, to keep for the next baby if relevant, or to give away to another new mum. Immediately when I got the pillow out of the packaging I could tell it was nice and firm, and not going to become saggy any time soon. In fact I have been using it daily for almost a year now, and it is still full of life and therefore provides good support for me and my baby whenever I breastfeed her. It is also excellent for sliding baby onto when she falls asleep after a feed, so that I can slip out from under her and get some things done, leaving her physically supported and otherwise unsuspecting of mum's absence.
Without my Widgey pillow I think I would have developed tension problems in my back and upper arms, as my baby has always been in the above 90s centiles and she still likes to breastfeed a lot. I find it relaxing to sit down with this pillow now and put baby on it, because it gives my arms a rest and also she seems to like it. It's important too to have a good firm pillow when you have a newborn baby, which is why they recommend buying new cot mattresses for newborns and not reusing old ones.
The cover is easily removable, with a discreet zip at the back, so that it can be rewashed instead of having to fork out for extra covers which
My daughter loves the way the pillow looks too, as it is nice and bright and have pictures of animals om it. I think this pillow is a bargain and I expect to get a lot of use out of it still. It can also easily be used on the reverse side, if you want a firmer side once the 'main' side has been used for a while.
This is a fantastic product and I not only recommend it for parents with babies but also for people who get tense arms when typing- I rest my elbows on the pillow when I type now and it's amazing how much tension they have lost over the last year!
Summary: A fantastic and versatile product.
