The First Years Tigger Door Bouncer
Advantages: Securely attaches to most internal doors, fun for babies
Disadvantages: Clamp is very tough to open
My six month old son David is a miserable little sod, it's a shame really because he's so inquisitive and it's usually frustration at not being able to do/see/reach something that sets him off. He's not really old enough to play with toys yet and even for such a young baby there is only so much excitement to be had by banging a rattle about, I knew he needed *something* to keep him occupied - and I knew I wanted that *something* to be a door bouncer.
I paid £14 for this Tigger door bouncer brand new from Ebay, mine is actually branded as a Disney Store product but I have seen the exact same bouncer available under the First Years and Lindam brands too. I presume it's one of those products that is manufactured and then sold on to the various baby companies for them to pop their own label in and package to their liking.
The bouncer looks great; the seat is printed with tiger stripes and there is a decent sized cuddly Tigger head attached to the front, plus a long tiger tail at the back. The seat is very roomy, too roomy for David at the moment actually and I keep having to pull him upright again as he keels to one side every so often. To be fair, although he's quite a chunky babe he is only at the minimum recommended age for the bouncer so at least the large seat will provide him with plenty of growing room. Actually, as far as I know there is no specified minimum recommended age for this product and parents are simply advised to use it only when baby can hold their own head up without any floppiness. For David this was at around five months, and although he wasn't able to actually bounce by then it pleased him as sitting so upright in the bouncer gave him a different and more exciting perspective.
The bouncer attaches to the door frame by way of a large clamp, I find this clamp extremely tough to open and being short I usually have to ask Mark to put it up anyway. The clamp needs to be tough to hold the weight of your child without any risk of it becoming detached from the door frame - I do get frustrated that I can't put it in place myself, but as a safety mechanism it does work perfectly.
Over the last couple of days David has started to bounce himself, rather than just hanging there like a spare part. In the early days I used to gently swing him while he sat in the bouncer, I must point out that this is not recommended (in fact using the bouncer as a swing is forbidden in the bouncer's safety notes) but providing you've attached the clamp securely and are very careful about what you're doing there shouldn't be a problem.
As a bouncer (rather than a swing) this is a fab product. You can adjust the 'dangle length' to suit your baby's height, I like to have it so that David's feet are flat to the floor without too much bend in his knees as I find this position encourages him to use his (not insubstantial) weight to bounce. Talking of weight, there is a 25lb weight limit with this bouncer, although in all honesty I doubt your little one will want to be in such an immobile position (bouncing notwithstanding) once he starts crawling and/or walking anyway.
The seat is apparently washable, I say apparently as for the life of me I can't work out how to detach it from the main body of the bouncer so in my house it remains a wipe-clean only item.
Summary: This bouncer has been a godsend for my miserable baby!
