Advantages: Good range of activities

Disadvantages: Wheels go a bit fast initially

We have had this for a few months now, we bought it just as our daughter turned 6 months and she is now almost 9 months.

To begin with she loved playing with the removable activity cventre on the front, especially flipping the butterfly from side to side and taking the green phone off to rattle it. Now she is off and walking with it!

The Vtech First Steps Baby Walker is suitable from 6 months. Initially it can be used as an activity centre with a puppy button at the top that plays puppy says...clap your hands/lets wiggle/stamp your feet amongst other things. 3 twisting dials that make twisting noises, a butterfly that doubles up as a way to change from music mode to learning mode, a green plastic phone that activates a button that says well done if they manage to push the phone back on, 4 different coloured/shaped/numbered buttons that either change the music or speak their shape/colour/number when pressed in learning mode. Then you have the 5 button keyboard at the bottom which plays notes when in music mode and speaks the letters when in learning mode.

The front activity centre comes off the main walker for when baby is practising sitting so it can be laid on the floor. However, I found that when it was laid on the floor all the activities couldn't be reached, so we rarely take it off and I normally propped the walker against the sofa so it didn't roll away and she played with the buttons whilst it was still on the walker.

We did have to have a bit of patience with her learning to use it as a walker though, I think the wheels go a bit fast for them when they are first learning so she refused to use it and would only walk holding onto our hands. However, now she is cruising confidently I think she feels a bit more able to control the speed and can stop mid way across the room if she wants to, but mainly she just crashes into the furniture.

I think this walker is good, it has tipped twice when she has lost her balance, once it landed on top of her but it is relatively light and didn't hurt her anymore than the fall did.

I don't think many babies would be very interested in it once they have mastered walking though, but I suppose only time will tell.

Summary: A great back saver.
