Advantages: Sturdy, plenty to do
Disadvantages: Too short for any above average height child
This Vtech baby walker has been around in various versions for many years. I have 5 children and have had 2 different ones, the latest one being the new version available in the shops today. It was bought for my 1 year old's first birthday present, but to be honest she could have played with it from about 9 months, and this would have obviously given better value for money with longer time for her actually use it.
The toy is available in 'girls' and 'boys' colours - my daughter has the 'boy' colour and I can quite honestly say she is not bothered - the colouring is just a gimmick and is more for the parents than the child. Both variants are brightly coloured, which is all that really matters.
There are various different activities for the child to play with on the front of the toy. At the top is a puppy dog which when pushed sings a song. Underneath this are 3 interlinking cogs which when turned make some bopping noises or will talk about twisting and turning. There is a butterfly whose wings can flap from side to side and plays different tunes when this is done. There are 4 buttons which teach shapes colours and numbers in the centre, and next to this is the removable chunky plastic telephone, definitely one of the favourite parts of the walker in my house! Five large coloured keyboard style buttons on the bottom teach the first 5 phonic sounds of the alphabet and are also fully lit up. They also light up when the other buttons on the toy are pressed. As well as the on/off switch there is also a loud/quiet volume selection - a must at times when the repetitiveness of the toy drives you mad!
All of these electronic activities are on the white front piece which is removable from the wheeled walker unit. This allows the child to play with the activities whilst sat down or even laid on their belly. It firmly clicks back into place when required.
The walker is very sturdy, it locks into position when unfolded, so there is no chance of little fingers getting trapped in the mechanisms. My only complaint is that having a fairly tall child, the walker became too short for her very quickly, so she only really plays with the electronic clip off front piece. Adjustable handles would be very handy!
Summary: Not bad value for money
