Advantages: Simple and fairly compact, can be washed
Disadvantages: Difficult to reassemble correctly after removing cover for washing and baby can bang heels
I wanted a simple wire frame bouncy chair for my son - I didn't want music, rocking, reclining or any of the other whistles and bells that seem to be added to this kind of product these days. Although I'm not keen on Winey the Pooh merchandise in general, the design is very subtle. The organic cotton cover is nice and soft and a beige/light brown colour so is pretty unisex. It can be used from birth until your baby weighs 9kg (around 6 months old).
The seat comes flat packed and has to be assembled following instructions included; this wasn't difficult and only took a few minutes. The harness is adjustable and can be opened at one side which makes putting the baby in or out easier. It also has a padded oak leaf "toy" attached to the harness. It comes with a head rest for smaller babies which you just put in position - it doesn't attach to the chair. I had thought it would move around because of this but it was never a problem. When he was small he preferred sitting in the bouncy chair to being laid down somewhere as he could see what was going on better. It took my baby a while to work out how to bounce the chair himself by kicking his legs up and down, but he enjoyed having the chair bounced for him until he learned how to do it himself. The chair would benefit from having some padding on the bar at the bottom as he often banged his heels on the bar when kicking his legs to bounce the chair. It didn't seem to bother him, but I thought it looked uncomfortable so I wrapped a muslin cloth around the bar to provide some padding and put my mind at rest!
In order to wash the fabric seat, you need to partly disassemble the wire frame so you can remove the fabric seat. You can then machine wash it at 40C. I would avoid doing this if possible as when I came to put the seat back together it was not quite aligned properly so now it doesn't sit quite flat on the floor.
We used the product on the hard floors in our house (wood and tiles) and have had no problems with the chair marking the floor, but it can "walk" a little if my son bounces it for very long.
All in all it was a good buy at £19.99 as we have had a lot of use out of it, it's not too bulky or garish and I will certainly use it again for baby number 2!
Summary: Could be improved with some padding on the bar under baby's feet, but generally a good basic chair
