Mamia Baby Wipes
by ButterflyB
This review is of Mamia baby wipes. Mamia is Aldi's own brand of baby products so is exclusively available to buy from Aldi stores.
I am not normally an Aldi shopper as the nearest store is about 20 miles away so I tend not to bother. I was however in a store and I saw a box containing 4 packets of wipes for a great price so ... I decided to give them a whirl. (There wasn't really that much thought go into the decision to buy - it was more supermarket sweep throwing all sorts into the trolley!)
~~Packaging~~
As I mentioned, the box I bought contained 4 packets of wipes with 64 wipes in each pack. Each pack has a plastic lid to clip closed. I find this really useful as they don't dry out. I like to have a pack in the car, changing bag, kitchen, living room and little ones bedroom so I have loads on the go at once. Some packs that just have the sticker to close do dry out so the plastic 'lid' is a real bonus to me.
I chose the sensitive fragrance free wipes, which come in a white plastic pack with green lettering. I do think they bare a striking resemblance to Pampers sensitive wipes in the look of the packaging. I do believe that fragranced wipes are also available in a green pack.
~~The Wipes~~
The sensitive fragrance free wipes are hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested with aloe Vera and chamomile to keep babies skin soft and smooth. They are also cotton soft embossed and manufactured from extra soft cloth that stands up to the job but is still nice and soft next to skin. My sons haven't had any sort of reaction to the wipes and both have very sensitive excema prone skin so great that cheap wipes are available in a sensitive version.
Each wipe comes out easily which is important - there is nothing worse than being faced with 'debris' shall we call it and not being able to get hold of a wipe! Neither do you pull out a whole string of wipes which always ends up in wasting them. So a thumbs up for that!
Each wipe is a good size and contains just the right amount of moisture - enough but not so much you need to towel them off afterwards!
Although the wipes state that they are fragrance free they do have a slight fragrance which can only really be described as a clean smell and it isn't particularly noticeable.
Mamia wipes have won several awards and the pack proudly shows that they won the bronze award from Mother & Baby magazine for the best baby wipe 2010/11 and also Lovedbyparents.com awarded them as the best baby wipes 2012
The box I bought containing 4 packs of 64 wipes was £2.50 so 63p per pack. So an excellent price for any wipes - let alone ones of this standard! I would expect to pay more to buy an individual pack and I would happily do so.
~~Summary~~
An excellent product at a fantastic price - they really don't look or feel like cheap wipes, i was pleasantly surprised that cheap wipes had the plastic clip shut lid. I will stock up next time I am near an Aldi store! Read the complete review |

Asda Little Angels Large Cotton Wool Pads
by Chippytarka
I have been known to make the 20 minute walk purely to pick up Asdas Little Angels Large Cotton Wool pads when I have run out. If not, every couple of weeks I throw them in my basket as I do top up shop. 2 packs of these pads are £2.50, or £1.47 per pack.
Why do I buy these?
I have never really been a ... fan of baby wipes when changing my childrens nappies. When my son was first born, I used cotton wool balls and warm water. I found the balls annoying and very small, and not very efficient in regards to getting rid of all of the ' mess '. I also found I had to use quite afew of them each wipe, so I knew this wasn't the method for me. When I discovered cotton wool pads I felt this was the answer, and I have used them ever since.
I buy these particular wool pads because they are readily available, and very easy to get hold of when Im doing a grocery shop anyway in Asda, so saves me time and effort having to visit another shop somewhere else.
What are they?
Large 100% cotton wool pads, round in shape and 3 ¼ inches in diameter. They are part of Asdas Little Angels range which are Asdas own products specifically designed with babies in mind.
How are they packaged?
They are packaged in a clear plastic long cylinder shaped bag. Once opened you can use the drawstring at the top to pull and close.
Where the bag isn't clear, its coloured blue with ' Asda Little Angels 100% pure cotton ' logo on front and back. Just beneath it says ' Large cotton wool pads ' and says it contains 100 pads, on both front and back.
On the back it says how gentle the pads are for babies, that it's a natural product, be careful with babies and the packaging and lastly, the contact details for Asda.
What do I use them for?
95 per cent of the time its to clean my daughter while changing her nappies whether it would be a number 1 or 2. I also use it to wipe down both my childrens faces if they need a good clean. In both insistences the pads are dampened with warm water.
I also used these when my daughter was just afew weeks old and I noticed one of her eyes was weeping, and the midwife suggested to boil some water, wait for it to cool down and then wipe her eye with it. When wiping the other eye I had to use a fresh one so not to potentially infect it and keep them both clean.
For myself, I use these pads to remove nail varnish by popping on remover onto it, or occasionally using the pads to remove masks or add toner to it and then apply to the face.
How do I find them?
Firstly, I was annoyed when ASDA first brought these out that they were 2 packs for £2.00,and soon enough they pushed the price up to £2.50. But to be fair, even at £2.50 for 200 pads they work out for me as good value.
They are large so can clean a bigger surface area more quickly and efficiently.
They are very absorbent and whether they are wet or dry have a good strength to them and they are not flimsy.
Very soft on the skin, whether that's on the bum or ' front ', or on the face. Not rough or scratchy at all.
Can be flushed down the toilet. Nothing on the packaging says you cant!
Would I buy these again? Yes I would. They are good quality, decent price, multi functional and perfect for delicate skins! Read the complete review |

Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes
by milmol7
This may sound odd, but I started buying these wipes years ago when I had a new leather suite! The salesman was initially trying to sell me a cleaning "system" which cost a fortune, but when he realised he was never going to get me to take it he seemed to have an attack of the conscience and said to get some baby wipes and ... clean it regularly with those!
I chose these because the packet said fragrance free, and obviously having spent such a lot on the suite I wanted to treat it with the same love and care as you would a baby! (Ok, well maybe not quite the same, but you know the idea!)
Six years on I'm still buying them because since having them in the house I am using them for all sorts of things - none of which are baby-bottom related.
Here are a few of the things I use them for:
- wiping table tops down, place mats or coasters,
- they are brilliant at getting "sticky" off things where you remove sticky price labels... crockery, glasses or even book covers
- removing make up
- cleaning the suite (of course!)
- wiping down the dashboard / console in the car
- cleaning marks off walls - I've used them on emulsioned walls as well as tiled walls
- cleaning my hands when I've applied hair gel or they're just feeling grubby
etc ... you get the picture!
The packs are sealed with a sticky clear oval seal which you peel back to break into the packet. You then remove the first wipe, which is very easy to do, and pull it through the slit opening. One thing I do find annoying with these is that removing one wipe always drags the next one through the opening, poking out ready for use. In order to reseal the pack, you then have to poke it back in. If you don't then obviously the next wipe dries out, and eventually it has a bad effect on the rest of the pack. Having said that, it's a personal gripe and I can definitely see the benefit of that function if you are using one after the other when using the wipes for their intended use! You don't necessarily have both hands available, so a clean wipe easily to hand is going to be a bonus - it's no doubt an excellent design feature which just doesn't happen to suit me!
When you use the wipes, they initially feel very wet indeed, but strangely when you start to use them (for whatever purpose) they never feel excessively so. If I'm using them for cleaning surfaces I usually follow with a quick buff with a cloth, but even so I wouldn't say they leave things especially streaky. When I use them on my hands or face they really live up to their sensitive tag and don't leave my skin feeling dry at all, they just feel really soft.
More often than not I pick these up when they are on offer, and never pay more than £1 a packet on average. For all the uses they have, and how effective they are, they are a household essential to me. Read the complete review |
