Advantages: Pleasant aroma
Disadvantages: Majorly thin consistency
When in Asda a few months ago (our nearest is around 15 miles away) I of course browsed in their extensive baby related aisles. My mother in law swears by their products and has a huge stash in the bathroom for when she has the grandchildren over. I have already reviewed a few Asda Little Angels products and they faired ok so I was more than happy to try another. I am quite happy to try in house brands as they tend to be a great comparison to the larger named brands.
On this occasion I was looking for a nappy cream, not really for nappy rash but every evening when my daughter has a bath I just apply a bit of nappy cream to keep her skin protected especially when she is in the same nappy from 7pm to 8.30am the next morning. I tend to stick with Johnsons Nappy Cream as I like it and it is reasonably priced. However, trying to get out of my comfort zone to try something new I opted for the Asda Little Angels Liquid Talc. I quite liked the sound of liquid talc and at the reasonable price of £1.34 it wasn't an expensive buy!
What Little Angels say:
"This gentle formulation applies like a lotion and dries to a light powder to absorb excess moisture and help to prevent chapping. Its a perfect items to have in the baby bag while you are out and about."
Asda Little Angels have a distinctive packaging style the packaging is in pastel colours featuring a cartoon image of a baby. The Little Angels logo is in pastel coloured font in large over the front of the white plastic tube the liquid talc comes in. The packaging is sweet and colourful and certainly won't be missed on the shelf. It features a white plastic flip top style cap and needs to be stood cap side down in order to stand it up properly. On the back there is a little info on how to use and what it contains.
The liquid talc is pure white in colour which is what I was expecting as I had visions of normal powder talc being melted down! The fragrance to the liquid talc is that typical light, delicate baby product type smell which is attributable to talc and possibly that clean linen scent you can get. Perfectly pleasant and actually quite refreshing which is nice. I do find it funny that baby care products all seem to have a similar scent which is 'delicate' it would really be nice to have a product with a slightly different 'delicate' aroma!
Having been used to the Johnsons Nappy Cream which is quite thick in consistency I wasn't at all prepared for the thin consistency the liquid talc has! Because it is stored capside down there is no need to shape the tube but as soon as I flipped the cap top off the liquid talc poured straight out with no warning whatsoever! I hadn't even applied any pressure it simply came out and didn't stop. It's consistency is so thin it's ridiculous. After cleaning up the mess it had made I applied it on my daughter's skin and it was still a thin consistency which in the end I had to rub in so much for it to disappear only to be left with a slightly sticky residue which resisted any form of absorption.
I have to say after the first time I used the liquid talc I wanted to throw the whole tube away and never use it again as I found the consistency far too thin and it doesn't absorb easily. I generally like to put a thin layer of cream on my daughter before I put her nappy on so it can absorb gently. But with this I can't put a thin layer as it is just too thin, therefore I have to rub it in which isn't easy at all. It takes a long time to absorb and still leaves a horrible residue afterwards. However, once up in the morning and I'm changing my daughter there is no trace of the liquid talc so at least I know it does absorb it just takes far too long and I don't like the residue it leaves.
Overall, my daughter's skin hasn't been irritated by the liquid talc and I guess to some extent it has protected my daughter from any nappy rash but as I have got so fed up of the thin consistency I ended up throwing half the tube away and returned to the Johnsons Nappy Cream instead! The positive is that my daughter's skin was kept moisturised but I wouldn't recommend this under any circumstances unless you like creams with thin consistencies. Definitely not a product that I will buy again. 1 star from me and that is being generous.
