Advantages: Generally good performance and an excellent price
Disadvantages: May leak on a nighttime
My baby is now 13 months old and I am using the Maxi Plus size.
When she was much smaller, I always used the Asda Little Angels range. However in the past four or so months, due to various offers which were on, I've been using the premium brands.
I have now switched, due to price, back to the Asda own brand. Here is a like for like comparison.
-------------------------------------------------
Price
Asda are, as you would expect, significantly cheaper than the premium brands. A 54 pack of Pampers costs £8.99.
A pack of 32 Little Angels nappies cost £3.98, but even better is the apparantly permanent offer of three packs for £10. That works out at less than 10 pence per nappy, compared with almost 15 pence for Pampers.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------
Appearance and feel.
They both look pretty much the same, with the usual non descript pictures on them.
The Pampers nappies have a slightly firmer feel to them, whilst the Asda ones are more papery. By feel alone, you would identify the Pampers nappies as being the more expensive nappy.
-------------------------------------------------- --------
Dryness
Both seem equally good at keeping the wetness away from the baby's bottom. This has got to be one of the main criteria, and I think Asda perform well.
-------------------------------------------------- --------
Leakages/Absorbancy
This is the one problem that I have encountered with the Asda nappies. They do leak on a night time. My baby has a nine ounce bottle before she goes to bed and we have had a problem with her waking up wet in the night.
This was never a problem with the Pampers. It is, I think, simply a case of the Pampers being able to hold more liquid, as the leaks have been through the top of the Asda nappy. It has simply become too full.
-------------------------------------------------- --
Stickiness and Strength of the Fastenings
This is a bug bear of mine, because I have had a few instances of the Pampers fastenings coming off, rendering the nappy useless. Especially when the babies become strong and wriggle like mad, these fastenings need to be really secure.
Asda Angels nappies fastenings are excellent. They seem really securely fixed, and are very sticky, so you can stick and then unstick to readjust without difficulty.
-------------------------------------------------- --------------
Conclusion
I think the Asda Angels nappies are excellent for day time use. The only problem is on a nighttime, when they may not last through the night without leaking.
If your child is a heavy 'wee-er', you may be best buying Asda Angels for day time use, and having an alternate brand upstairs for use on a nighttime.
Summary: Great for day time use

- 21/01/09 If you do find the tab snaps off on a Pampers nappy, phone their helpline and let me know. They will send you a jiffy bag to post the faulty nappy back and also give you a coupon (about £5 worth!) as an apology. Well worth complaining!
