Advantages: good fit, nice colours and designs, quality, hold and price
Disadvantages: nothing that I have noticed so far
With everything seeming more expensive then before and being at home with a baby on a limited budget I started to look at my weekly shop in an attempt to bring down my total bill. One month I came to the last week and had managed to spend a lot more then normal (due to my car being serviced, mot done, road tax and paying for my son to go to a summer camp!). I looked at my bank account balance and realised there were going to have to be some things left off my weekly shop to avoid being in my overdraft. It was just things like chocolate and some snacks which I would no doubt buy double of after pay day! My mother had been telling me for ages that Asda was very cheep and worth a visit (I'm not sure she's ever actually been herself!). There's a really big Asda not far from my home so I thought I'd give it a go and try and save a bit of money if possible.
The shop itself was huge and I felt a bit lost for a while but I eventually found everything I needed. I went to the baby aisle last and saw a lady at the end of the row trying to tell people about Asda brand nappies. As a curious bargain mad woman I made my way over to her to find out what was going on. She said that she was trying to raise sales of Asda brand nappies and was offering out coupons to shoppers which would make a pack of nappies cost only a pound.
With my first child I tried Tesco nappies and they fell apart (bits from the lining seemed to come apart from the nappy and made quite a mess) and didn't fit very well so I was a bit apprehensive, but I thought worst case scenario I'd have to buy a new pack of Pampers post pay day. I got a pack of Asda Comfort Dry nappies. They came in a pack of 30 and are normally priced at £3.97 which works out to about 13p per nappy. My normal Pampers cost roughly £2 more then that. I got the nappies out of the plastic wrapping to put them into the holder and had a quick inspection. They were kinda cute to be honest. Each one had a bunch of cartoon baby figures on it and aqua coloured edging.
I had previously been a bit spoilt using the Pampers active fit as they were such a good fit for an active baby but I was pleasantly surprised to find the Asda ones to be just as good. During my previous experience using a grocery store nappy I found they weren't able to hold very much. If you didn't change the baby right after they had a wee the nappy would start to fall apart. I took the kids out for the day and realised (stupidly) around lunchtime that the baby hadn't been changed since breakfast. I proceeded to change the little one and found that the nappy had held up its end of the bargain rather well! Another good point is that the side tabs of the nappy hold up just as well as the name brand rivals. Whilst little man is trying to escape the evils of a nappy change it can be hard to get the side tabs on but thankfully the tabs seem to grab onto the front of the nappy the second you press it on so at least once I get it there I know it will stay put.
Sounds funny but now and again I have picked the little one up and held him on my hip to find that he had somehow managed to wee out the side of the nappy and onto ME! I'm not overly sure how it happens but he's done it more than once. Maybe it's something about the positioning on my hip. Anyway back to the point ... It's only happened once since moving over to the Asda nappies so no complaints there.
You have to pay for quality! I'm not sure I believe this one any more, I used to think that was very true but over the past few months I have been finding some really good budget products.
I bought these as a money saving option and now once a month I go to Asda and get a few packs as I really like them. Worth a try if you've got a store near you.
