Advantages: Cheaper than brand names.

Disadvantages: Nowhere near as good as Huggies.

I have to honestly say that I don’t like to waste money. When my son was born I absolutely positively had to buy the very best of everything. Pushchair/Clothes right down to these lovely things – nappies. I’m sure that any parent will agree that it is very easy to tell the difference between a good nappy and a bad one. At first I stuck with Pampers until I realised after a few months that they were very plasticy on the outside compared to the material feel of Huggies. Now of course Pampers have their ‘premiums’ range but I’m still with Huggies at the moment.

Then when out shopping this weekend I thought that it was high time to give a shop’s own brand a go. After all, they’re probably very good and they’re a bit cheaper then Huggies so it was worth a try as far as I was concerned. As I shop mainly at Asda I thought that I’d give their nappies a go. The price was around £4.75 for 30 (junior size) compared to £5.15 for Huggies. So there was only a 40pence or so difference between the two – I was expecting very little difference between them.

Oh how wrong I was. After the very first night the difference was all too apparent. Firstly the smell, now I’m not going to get all graphic here so don’t skip to the end! Anyone who’s had the displeasure of changing a nappy will know that there are good and bad ones. So, I wasn’t too bothered when faced with a good one, just wee although a fair bit.
The first thing was the smell, oh my god you would have thought that nappy had been on for several days, not several hours – very unpleasant. Secondly, the nappy had really suffered having taken on the extra weight – the straps especially were quite flimsy and certainly would have only taken a bit of restless bed movement for it to have fallen off.

The nappy didn’t leak however and the nappy has a similar feel to Huggies on the outside but other th
an that I have to say that I was very unimpressed. The price is slightly better than my usual brand but I honestly have to say that for those extra few pence the difference is very obvious indeed.

Asda wipes are great but their nappies are going to be staying on the shelf from now on.
I feel that these nappies just don't compete with either Huggies or Pampers for quality and design.

I found Huggies to be the best. Also because I kept receiving vouchers from Huggies for £1 off each packet, it made them considerably cheaper than other brands.

Fortunately I have nothing to add to this debate! Kay
