Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Cheap!
Recently the previously impossible happened - my daughter ran out of wipes. We have always used Pampers Sensitive, so I sent hubby off to Asda to get a box. To my horror, he returned with these Asda Smartprice wipes, claiming that Asda had ran out of Pampers and even my back-up choice of Huggies (yeah right hubby). He was chuffed as he loves to save money and these were 49p a pack.
The wipes state they are dermatologically tested and gentle enough for baby skin. I was sceptical. The wipes come in a cheap, flimsy packet with no pictures or anything, just the green Asda logo and name of the wipes. No money spent clearly. The wipes are not suitable to be used near eyes, which immediately makes me question just how gentle and safe they are - after all, they are meant to be used on my baby's face! I like to use her Pampers wipes to remove my make up, but would definitely never use these on my face.
The wipes are thin, much thinner than the better brands. They are stretchy and damp but not wet. They have no smell. I used them for one nappy change and that is it (my daughter only has nappies at night time) and went straight to the shops in the morning for good old Pampers. I just did not like the idea of using something so cheap on my daughter's delicate skin. The wipes do the job for wet bums, but I do not think they would be wet enough to use for messy bums or messy hands - not without a hell of a lot of scrubbing which I would never do as it would cause a rash and no doubt make my daughter uncomfortable.
If in an absolute emergency, these would suffice but I would not want to use them on a regular basis. I'm not a brand snob, but if it isn't gentle enough to be used to remove eye make up, it isn't gentle enough for my daughter's bum let alone a newborn.
Not impressed.
