Advantages: Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film is the best

Disadvantages: Baby Sebamed Special Healing Cream is pretty good. Desitin Creamy is useless.

I have tried 3 kinds of baby bottom/ nappy rash creams/ sprays and the results are out.

The first one I tried was Desitin creamy because I've seen a lot of mothers asking for it at the pharmacy where I work. It promises overnight relief and that it will 'help heal, sooth and prevent diaper rash'. Comparing it with the original Desitin, this one had a lot less Zinc oxide which is the active ingredient. But I was taken in by the packaging and promises and by thinking that if so many mothers seem to buy it, it must be better! Wrong!

It does help prevent nappy rash, but it is so sticky that its difficult to get off. I got some on my newborn baby's genitalia and it took months to totally get it all off because I didnt' want to wipe too hard and hurt her. It was not worth the extra money at all. ( more expensive than original Desitin.)

The second cream I tried was on my mother's recommendation. It's Baby Sebamed Special Healing Cream. This one has titanium dioxide as the active ingredient and is easy to put on and wipe off. Not as sticky as Desitin. It's also supposed to allow the skin to breathe as well. I found this very useful and use it at almost every diaper change.

Using Sebamed, my baby hardly gets any nappy rash at all. In 6 months, I'd say only about 3 or 4 times, and never a severe rash.

But the best product of all by a long chalk is Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film. This is a product usually marketed to prevent bed sores on immobile persons. It also is used to prevent the breakdown of skin on persons who need to have dressings changed regularly, eg. around a port-a-cath, colostomy etc. It forms a permeable layer on the skin to protect it while still allowing it to breathe.

It's normally only found in major pharmacies or hospitals. The only deterrent is the price. It costs about twice the price of Sebamed. But it works like magic on nappy rash. I save it for when the nappy rash actually appears and it LITERALLY is gone by the next day. All you do is squirt a few sprays and leave it to air dry for 30 seconds or so.

Summary: Cavilon is really worth every cent, just use sparingly.

You need to have this moved to the apprpriate topic heading.

Your review might have been more useful if it had been posted under a relevant category but this has nothing to do with nappy bags.

I'm sorry, but I can't see what this has to do with Asda Smartprice Nappy Bags.
