Advantages: Cheap, strong, do the job, easy to use
Disadvantages: None for me
As you probably know by now we have been adopted by a lovely cat which we have named Mew. He has his own little room at the side of the house where his food and litter tray are kept and of course mommy (that's me!) has the lovely job of clearing the poo from the litter tray on a daily basis.
Initially I used old plastic carrier bags to do this but of course we don't get very many of those these days as we are all using shopping bags again to help the environment.
The other day I was reading the latest reviews here on Dooyoo and read one by Butterbear for Asda Smartprice Nappy Bags currently priced at 300 for 82p. I thought to myself - these would be ideal for Mew poo!
The pack is very simple in design in pale green and white with a silhouette of a teddy bear as of course these are supposed to be used to dispose of your babies nappies! At the top of the packet there is an oval of perforations so that you can remove this bit of the packet and leave a hole through which you can take out one bag at a time.
Inside the pack are 300 pale turquoise bags measuring about 150 x 310 mm (including handles). They are actually bigger than this when you come to use them as there is a pleat down each side which opens out. The bag is quite thin but very strong and is slightly fragranced.
The information on the Asda website and on the back of the pack states that these bags 'have been carefully made to provide the ideal way to dispose of used nappies. Simply pop the nappy into the bag together with any cotton wool or wipes used during a nappy change. Once the handles have been tied together, the fragrance will mask any unpleasant smells.'
I have quoted this information from the sources mentioned as I obviously can't comment on the use of these bags as nappy sacks.
The way I use these bags is this:
When Mew has done a poo in his litter tray but the litter is not ready to be changed completely then the poo needs to be removed. By the way, sorry if you are eating! Now I have seen responsible citizens out clearing up after their dogs so I know how to do this.
I just take a bag; put my hand inside so that it is covered by the bag. I then pick up the poo with my hand which is separated from said poo by the thickness of the bag. I then turn the bag inside out thus ending up with the poo in the bag. I then tie the handles tightly which means that any smell is sealed inside the bag. As it is very slightly fragranced (the bag not the poo) it helps to make sure that Mew poo doesn't smell in the bin.
I find these really useful for the reason as stated but I am sure that they would be just as good as nappy bags. The way I see it - why pay more for something like this when you can get a good product for next to nothing!
You do need to be careful though. As this product does contain a light fragrance there may be an allergic reaction to it - if this does happen then you obviously stop using the product straight away.
These bags must not be used for food as the fragrance would taint the food.
These bags must be disposed of in the dustbin or public waste bin but must NOT be flushed down the toilet.
Since these bags are Asda own brand they come with the usual guarantee that states that Asda will refund AND replace any product which is not up to standard.
So thank you to Butterbear these bags are great and I shall certainly buy some more when these run out next year sometime! LOL!
This review will also get posted on Ciao at some point.
Summary: A great product at a great price!

- 11/07/08 We do the same and use nappy bags for the dogs poo when we go out as so much cheaper than actually buying dog ones which are very expensive! |
