Advantages: Easy to use, portable
Disadvantages: can be heavy to lift when full
This is the baby bath that we used every night for our little boy until he was about 7 months when he transferred in to our big bath.
Do I need a baby bath?
At the end of the day no you don't. You can bath a baby anywhere, even in a washing up bowl but there are advantages to having a baby bath.
Firstly you can bath your baby anywhere with a baby bath. We just popped it on the bathroom floor, but some people like to bath baby in other rooms of the house. You can also have it on a work surface when baby is young and will help mums with bad backs.
It quite small so baby will feel more secure in a baby bath than in your massive bath.
You use less water than in a large adult bath, great if you're on a water meter or don't want to waste money heating water.
The bath can be part of your bedtime routine and help baby prepare for sleep.
Disadvantages of a baby bath include the fact it can be heavy to lift when filled with water, parents with more than one child may want to bath all children together so would only use the bath for a short while.
What about this bath.
It's about £7.50 from ToysRUs and these baby baths are specially curved to help you support your baby when washing but you often keep hold of baby anyway so it doesn't really matter. It also has safety designed edges and rounded corners so they aren't sharp if little one decided to try and climb out. You can rest it on your bath but we never did. It also has easy to carry handles at each end. There is a drainage hole and plug but we just tended to tip it out when we were finished with the water.
I would definately recommend any first time parent to get a baby bath, it doesn't have to be this one as they are all much the same. We got a lot of use out of it and our little boy loved the water. We even took it on a self catering holiday to maintain his routine and packed all his stuff in it.
Summary: A good baby bath
