Advantages: Can use it anywhere
Disadvantages: So heavy when full.
When I was pregnant a baby bath was one of the 'must have' items for me and I'd don't really know why to be honest. You can bath a baby just about anywhere and my mum has photos of bathing me in the kitchen sink! I don't think I could bring myself to do that no matter how well I cleaned it!
We bought this one from Toys R Us and it cost us around £7. It has a handle on each end of the bath for you to carry it and a little plug hole to empty the water when you are done. It's made of good solid plastic and half way down the bath it's got a raised bit for your baby's bum to rest.
If you are anything like me then you will know that a routine is good. I like routine myself and I know my children do because they know where they stand and whats about to happen next. Part of our routine is bath time! This is where the bath comes in!
My boy is a bit chunkier than my first so I like to fill it so that the water covers his little belly and he's not too cold. I put the baby bath in the bath and fill it from the tap. Once I've tested the temp I try my hardest to lift the damn thing and practically do my back in! Eventually I call my hubby to do the manly lifting and he spills a tonne of water all over the bathroom carpet! I undress my little one and pop him in thinking what a load of hassle that was. When I call my hubby to pick the bath up and empty out the water it slops all over the place again and the plug doesn't get used because by the time he gets it back to the big bath half of it is gone and he just tips the water out over the side anyway.
The next time I fill his baby bath up I decide to leave it in the bath and wash my little tot from there. As I am half way through doing this I realise that this exercise was pointless. I could have just filled the big bath and bathed both my boys together thus killing two birds with one stone.
The other thing is your baby will grow so quickly that he or she won't be in it for very long as is the case with all baby things.
I found that it was a bit of a pain to store too. It was too bulky to be left in our bathroom. I was storing it in the bath at one point but my messy husband would take it out and leave it in the middle of the bathroom floor ad I just got fed up of moving. It's on the landing at the moment but It will soon be in the local paper!
The good things about this bath is the fact that it has two handles on either side which does make it useful when you are carrying.
If you can actually carry it then you can use it to bath your baby in just about anywhere in the house.
I would say to any new mum that this is a very useful bath but a baby bath in general isn't an essetial thing to go on the list.
Summary: Not an essential item but this one is as good as any.

- 11/12/08 I have one of these, I don't bother lifting it now and just bath him in the bigger bath, it's so heavy and overflows easily. Good review |

- 11/12/08 great review, i use mine as a washing basket to take the washing out to the line now as it is much tougher than the plastic laundry baskets |
