Advantages: good handles?
Disadvantages: see review
OK, here's my third review of baby baths - will this one work?
When I was a baby (my mum delights in telling me), she used to wash me in an ice-cream tub. I didn't believe it until an old family friend laughed about it the other day - how the heck did I fit in? Anyway, things aren't so tight around here that we needed to wash the boys in a food pot, so we bought one of these bruin baths instead. I have to say we bought it because it looked good and matched everything else we had, which is just a waste of time in the long-run!
Costing £7 from Toys R Us, the bath is basically a shrunken down version of an adult bath - clever thinking that. You fill it like a normal bath, then wash your baby. It even has a little plug-hole at the bottom.
So, is it any good? Well, once again, you have the age old problem of how to hold your baby and wash it at the same time, which is pretty much impossible, so no, it's not very good. In terms of washing the baby, it doesn't really help much.
In terms of the design, well it has a couple of handles which are, erm, handy. When you fill it quite deep, it's dead heavy, and the plastic flexes like it might break, so we ended up leaving it in the bath, which kind of defeated the object really. What I mean is, it would have been nice to fill it up and put it in front of the fire, but it was too heavy and looked like it may break, so again it defeats the purpose.
Finally, it's a big old thing, and we struggled to find anywhere to store it. It ended up living in the bath, and had to be taken out every time we wanted a shower or bath ourselves.
All in all, another failure at the seemingly impossible task of bathing baby.
Summary: yet another poor baby bath

- 11/04/09 we ended up finding this thing that goes in the big bath ... it's like a big sponge that baby lies on. It's brilliant and he thinks it's great fun! |

- 10/04/09 Just take baby in the bath with you - albeit slightly cooler water and then have partner available to dry baby once you've had fun in the bath. I used one of those bath/changing tables when living in Spain so save on my back - but when my LO got older we just put her in the bath. Only other idea is to use a wash basket without holes in - so it's a mini bath inside your normal bath- then put it back in the laundry room when you've finished!! |
