Advantages: Practical, more hygienic and well made
Disadvantages: pricey
Toilet training - it is one of those milestones that most parents dread I think.
Amongst friends with children bladder and bowel movements can take up rather too much of the conversation and chances are that many parents have quite a stressful time trying to ditch the nappies.
My first daughter was rather reluctant to leave her nappies behind her - sure she liked the idea of peppa pig pants, she even quite enjoyed sitting on a potty in front of c-beebies but she was about 3 before she was really interested.
This is why we bought one of these seats.
Now taking aside the fact of my child being quite a late starter on the toilet front, I have to say this is an excellent product. If you have ever cleaned out a potty you will know it is not a very nice experience at all - worse than nappies for me - and this seat enables you to use your existing toilet to train.
At £19.99 it is not a cheap item - I bought mine from John Lewis. You could probably buy a seat for under half the price of this product but I think this seat is actually worth the extra money.
Firstly this is made with solid plastic and is wipe clean. It has a carrying handle which you can use to hang the seat up. There is a ring underneath you turn so that it fits your toilet seat. Most cheaper seats require you to lift your toilet seat (ewwwww), place the seat under it and put the seat down again. Hardly practical if you have a toddler in a hurry - and not pleasant for adult visitors to your smallest room to have to remove.
This seat has a rubber rim and fits directly on the toilet seat and easily lifts on and off but provides a secure seat for your toddler to do their business. You could actually buy one of these and bypass the whole potty malarky if your child is rather later at toilet training.
I found that my toddler was soon happy to be held over normal toilets when out and about having used this seat. If you have small children for a while you are going to be using this for a while - in my time of buying baby equipment I have certainly wasted more money on less useful things.
If you are late toilet training this is excellent - for the record my child was using this happily in two days, had one memorable accident (there is a cafe we can never ever go back to), but was dry at night straight away. I didn't waste lots of time following my child around with a potty.
Glamourous this product isn't (I can't believe I have written a review about a toilet seat!), however it is very useful, well designed - as all the baby bjorn products - and if you will excuse the pun, does the job!
Summary: excellent item for toilet training
