** Brief introduction to Bepanthen **

Bepanthen is an ointment for nappy rash which is in the form of a beige coloured cream. The cream is very thick and sticky.

It comes in 2 different sizes - 30g (for around £2.00) and 100g (for around £6.70) and is available at all good supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda etc) and most pharmacies.

It comes packaged in a small but long cardboard box with instructions and product information inside. The cream comes inside a metallic tube with a screw on lid.

It contains no fragrance, preservatives, colours or antiseptics and can be used from birth, on the sensitive of skins. It is supported by the British Skin Foundation.

Bepanthen can be used to cure nappy rash or protect skin from nappy rash. It contains Vitamin B5 which "aids natural recovery of irritated sensitive skin while keeping it soft, smooth and moisturised" but also forms a protective waterproof barrier over the skin which keeps it from irriation.

** Bepanthen and bottoms **

Luckilly my daughter has never suffered with frequent nappy rash but like all babies she is has had it a few times.

Nappy rash is an inevitable thing which occurs in all babys and is just one of those things. Babies skin is alot thinner and has a higher pH level than adults which makes it susceptible to infection and irritation. Nappy rash is occurs when the skin is trapped inside a nappy with urine and faeces due to lack of air circulation and the chemicals inside the urine and faeces. Nappy rash can look red, inflamed, blotchy, spotty and is found within the nappy area but can also spread to the legs and abdomen. It can be very sore, painful and irritating for babies.

My first experience of Bepanthen was when I noticed my daughter had signs of nappy rash. I already had Benpanthen in my cupboard and used the cream right away. I used it again at her bedtime nappy change where the redness had certainly gone down but was not gone completely. The next morning I was dreading changing her nappy as I always feel awful and to blame when she has nappy rash. I was expecting it to be sore and red but to my suprise the rash had totally gone - her skin was back to it's normal, healthy, peachy self and she was much happier. I had previously used Sudocrem for nappy rash but that seemed to take a day or two to work but this just worked like a wonder cream and ever since that first day I have used Bepanthen as my number one nappy rash cream.

My advice for getting rid of nappy rash would be to take the nappy off and wipe the area with cotton wool and water, let your baby have a kick around for a while (don't forget to put a towel down!) to let the area breathe and then wipe some Bepanthen onto the affected area and put a clean nappy on. You should also change babys nappy more frequently than usual.

I only used Bepanthen when I noticed signs of nappy rash but it is suitable for every nappy change. Or you might want to use Benpanthen at certain times to avoid nappy rash - for example when baby is unwell, teething, on antibiotics or having a change in diet, as this is when babies are most vunerable to nappy rash.

** Bepanthen and tattoos **

In my opinion Bepanthen is the best tattoo healing cream. I have used other creams in the past and this definitley works the best.

My first ever tattoo was just an awful experience. The tattoo "artist" didn't really know what he was talking about and told me to rub something ridiculous on it. After a couple of days I was practically crippled with pain and half on the ink fell out of my tattoo.

Thankfully since that day I have learnt what proper tattoos and tattoo artists are all about, and the importance of tattoo aftercare.

The way I care for new tattoos is I leave the clingfilm on overnight and take it off in the morning, then I wash all the gooey stuff off with hot water and give the area a good scrub with a bar of plain clean soap and rinse it with cold water, then I pat it dry with a soft clean towel. Once the tattoo is totally dried I squeeze out the desired amount of Bepanthen onto my finger and rub it over the tattoo. I then cover the tattoo back up with clingfilm and remove it at the end of the day or next day. Then I just continue to rub Bepanthen onto my new tattoo for usually around a week (you need to keep it moist so it doesn't dry out) until it is totally healed - the healing process doesn't take half as long when using Bepanthen.

Aswell as healing fast, it also seems to lessen scabbing. Everybody heals differently, for instance I scab up alot and seem to take a couple of weeks to heal, whilst my other half doesn't really scab and heals within a few days. Some people say that Bepanthen stops scabbing but in my opinion it doesn't, it just makes it less scabby than usual.. which is still brilliant! I also love the fact that the cream stays on for a long time so you don't need to reapply it every five seconds.

The only downsides is that it is very sticky which means if you aren't careful you can end up getting fluff and hair stuck to it! It's also quite greasy so you might want to watch your bedcovers too.

Overall this is a must have for all sore bums and new tattoos!

Summary: A wonder cream.
