Boots Cotton Buds
Advantages: Good quality buds, Reasonable price, Do what they claim.
Disadvantages: Box could be designed better as not very secure.
I always like to have a box of cotton buds on my dressing table, as I find they come in handy at the best of times. When I went to Boots to buy some supplies, I picked up their own brand of cotton buds as I remembered I was running low on my usual ones. I can't say I'm particularly fussy when it comes to something as simple as cotton buds, so I am happy to buy own branded ones as I think they are just as effective.
As these are Boots own, they are available in most of their stores. The price I paid for these was around £1.20 which I think is really reasonable considering how long a box of these seems to last me. You get 200 cotton buds within the little plastic case, so it is definitely worth the price paid.
As it is own branded, the packaging is quite plain. Just a clear, small plastic case which opens up to reveal all the buds. One reason I like Johnson's cotton buds is that they come in a pot which stands up, making storage much more effective. A problem I have faced with these Boots ones is that the case just does not seem to close properly and securely. Because of this, I often knock these over resulting in the buds going everywhere! It is sturdy enough if your cotton buds have a place on a dresser or table, but I like to store mine away, and I often find it a problem. In fact, I would say this is the only negative I have faced with these, and it sounds silly but can drive me made when scurrying around hunting for cotton buds!
The buds are of a standard size, and are white sticks with two little cotton buds on the end. The plastic long part which you hold on to is very sturdy, which helps when focusing on cleaning small areas. The cotton is also very soft and of good quality, and another thing which I like is that it does not seem to molt away like some cheap cotton tend to do. They seemed of good quality, so then I just had to put them to good use. I find three good uses for cotton buds, so I will list these and let you know how I got on.
Firstly, one of the main reasons I use cotton buds is for my ears. Yes, I am very much aware of the consequences of poking too hard and I know it is not recommended. I have suffered with bad ears for the majority of my life, meaning they have to be syringed regularly. I have found these cotton buds to come in handy for clearing around the area as well as just inside of them (I am very gentle, don't worry)! Another effective use is for clearing out water after baths and showers, as I have to be very careful of this due to my bad ears. These cotton buds were very useful and cleaned my ears well which I was happy with.
The second reason I use cotton buds is when it comes to eye make up. I love to wear lots of mascara and have lovely, long eyelashes. Because of the amount I wear, it does sometimes transfer on to the skin around the eye area. If I try to wipe away with my finger, it just smudges everywhere. Cotton buds are super effective for getting these little dots. I found these cotton buds worked well at removing even the darkest black make up so I was happy.
Finally, the last reason I use cotton buds is when I am applying nail varnish. I have recently grown my nails, so I am enjoying painting them in various colours. As I am still perfecting my nail varnish technique, I find myself going outside of the lines quite a lot, and it leaves them looking messy. I simply dip the cotton bud into some nail varnish remover, and gently dab on to the skin around the nail to remove these unwanted extras. I have found these cotton buds especially effective at doing this.
Overall, I am really impressed with these Boots own brand cotton buds. They are well priced, and good quality buds. The only thing I can fault with this product is that the box they are stored in is not very secure. However, I have now just transferred these into another pot to sort this problem. Thanks for reading. :-)
Summary: They do the job!
