Before Jayden was due me and my husband purchased all of the essentials that we would need for him, during a recent shopping trip we decided to have a quick look in our local Matalan, we needed things like cot sheets, blankets and things, these were items we didn't want to spend a fortune on and a lot of the shops we had been looking in were very expensive. One of the items we needed was a changing mat, again this was something I didn't want to spend a lot of money on however I wanted a half decent of which was going to last well. Whilst having a look around Matalan I noticed that they had several different changing mats in stock which looked of a good quality and were very reasonably priced so we decided to give it a go and picked the Bunny Changing Mat from the ones they had in stock.
The Bunny Changing Mat came wrapped in clear polythene, almost like a large clear bag allowing you to see the design of the changing mat inside, this bag was sealed at the top and had a small plastic hook on it which it was hung up from in the shop, there were not actual labels on the packaging other than a small white label in one corner with the bar code on. The Bunny Changing Mat is a large rectangle shape, it is made from Phthalate free PVC foam, the centre of the mat where you lay your baby is of a decent thickness and soft for them to lay on, this is edged with a border of slightly thicker foam which is handy as your baby gets older and starts to roll over so that they cannot roll off of the mat, the border goes around 3 sides of the mat, the bottom of the mat does not have the border along it. The whole of the Bunny Changing Mat is covered in a plastic type material, this makes the mat easy to clean you can simply wipe it over with warm soapy water. The plastic covering also means that if your baby decides to wee whilst you are changing them, this happens in our house more than once a day, it just sits on the top of the mat and can be quickly wiped away and cannot soak into the foam.
The Changing Mat comes in different designs and colours to suit your needs, ours is a turquoise colour and cream, the slightly raised border is turquoise and cream strips with the main changing area being mainly cream with turquoise dots on it, there is also a picture of a rabbit on this part of the changing mat with a bee and the words My Rabbit written underneath. We went for the Bunny Changing Mat as it was more suited to a boy however you can also get the mat in the following designs
These come in pink, grey and a brown, the Lion and Giraffe designs were also suited to both boys and girls, however personally I was not too keen on the grey and brown colours and preferred the turquoise colour Changing Mat. The mat is of a decent size and is around 30" in length and approximately 12 to 15" wide, this gives you plenty of room to change your baby without having to put dirty nappies and wipes on the floor, you can easily have your baby on the mat and also put any dirty and used items on it as well without it getting your flooring or whatever surface you have the mat on dirty.
The Bunny Changing Mat as I have mentioned comes from Matalan and cost us just £8.00, this was a lot cheaper than a lot of places. Personally I feel that this was excellent value for money, the changing mat has had a lot of use in just a few weeks and is used several times a day and so far is in excellent condition despite having to be washed several times a day.
I would definitely recommend the Bunny Changing Mat from Matalan, not only is it very reasonably priced it is practically designed and so far has proved to be hardwearing. The designs of the mat are suited to both boys and girls. The mat is of a decent size giving you plenty of room whilst changing your baby, I like the way the sides are slightly raised with the bottom part being open to allow you to get to your baby easily. Overall I would definitely recommend the Bunny Changing Mat to anyone with a baby as it is an essential item and one which is of excellent quality.
