Advantages: works well with existing cloth systems, good quality
Disadvantages: would be faffy if using disposable nappies, more expensive than 'do it yourself' options
I bought a Cheeky Wipes Mini Kit when they were recently on promotion, clearing old stock. It cost me fifteen pounds plus a postage charge. Compared to wipes at a cost of about a pound a packet I would say this was a good deal. The set contained 25 terry wipes, a small waterproof 'fresh wipes' bag, a plastic soaking box for fresh wipes and a bottle of essential oils (I choose the lemon/mandarin one). I already had a bucket and bag for storing mucky wipes, so did not need to purchase the all-in-one kit. I have been using these wipes for nearly 3 months, and have washed them with my nappies at 40 on a synthetic wash on my machine.
The wipes are a good size for wiping and clean effectively on hands/faces/bottoms. I use them for topping and tailing as they are as gentle as what they are soaked in. Since the wipes aren't soaked in chemicals it is suitable for use from birth in the stage where fiddly cotton wool and water is recommended. I find that we can clean the worst pooplosion with 2-3 wipes. We wash every night and with that have found 25 wipes to be ample. The wipes have lost some of their shape in the wash, but I don't consider this significant as it hasn't affected their performance. The wipes dry within a couple of hours hung out by our rayburn. The wipes we purchased were white which makes them more prone to staining. It is a lot more convenuent than using disposable wipes if using cloth nappies, as I always found it a pain to have to make extra effort to find a way to dispose of the wipes while changing.
The levels on the box make for easy soaking and is a good way to store the wipes. Our box has a press open lid which is handy for quick one handed access, but a bit tempting for older brothers to fiddle with. I believe this has been changed in later designs to include a clip for secure fastening.
The bag is made from very waterproof material and has plenty of space to store up to ten wipes. It fastens with a drawstring, which can mean the bag can leak - I keep it in the clean section of my waterproof nappy bag to be safe.
The oil I chose is actually a 'mucky wipes' blend, but I dislike the smell of lavender included in the other blend, It was lemon and mandarin and very fruity and refreshing. I also use it in my nappy bucket and it is good at masking smells.
This branded set is certainly more expensive than a do it yourself option of making wipes or purchasing cheaply from e-bay and using a tupperware box at home, but for me the branding did convince my husband to give it a try, and it is certainly cheaper than a child's lifetime of disposable wipes for us.
A convenient money saving venture for cloth nappy users.
Summary: Convenient effective reusable wipes
