Advantages: Great Value, Good Absorption, Well Fitting, Wetness Indicator
Disadvantages: Only available at LIDL, unattractive cheap looking packaging
My daughter is 10 months old and I have tried several nappies, including Tesco, Huggies, Pampers & Wilkinsons, but I would recommend Cien nappies over all of these.
I was recommended Cien nappies by a "mum friend" of mine who told me that she used them for her baby because they were very good value for money and seemed to keep her baby dry through the night. So I went down to my local Lidl store and picked up a pack...
I have to admit that I was a little doubtful that they would be any good when I saw the packaging - a bright red pack with a half drawn/half photo of a baby on the front, and covered in foreign writing! Never the less I decided to give them a try and picked up a pack of 50 Maxi Play nappies (15-40lbs) for £5.99 - a very reasonable price.
The nappy itself is white fabric with little blue teddy bears all over it and a different teddy picture across the waistband - chef bear, policeman bear, gardener bear, etc. I was pleasantly suprised that they also have a wetness indicator line which turns blue when wetness has soaked down through the nappy, a really useful feature that I hadn't expected from such a cheap nappy. There is an elasticated band at the back of the nappy to help stretch with an active baby, and the velcro tabs are also very stretchy too which means that the nappy fits very snuggly. The leg bands are elasticated for added security from leaks.
I was extremely impressed with the absorption factor and my little one, who usually kicks up quite a fuss when she's a bit wet, seemed comfortable for longer. Since we have started using Cien nappies we have not had any leaks - hoorah!! They have kept her pretty dry through the night, though I have had to change her on occasion.
The one thing I will mention that I do not like about these nappies is the slightly strange "industrial" smell they seem to get when they are wet. I have only noticed it when I am changing a wet nappy but it hasn't put me off buying them, just a little unpleasant at the changing table. I have also noticed that they only sell these nappies from 9lbs upwards.
Packs cost around £5.99 for 50-70 nappies from Lidl stores, depending on what age range you are buying for. I would highly recommend that you give them a try - don't be put off by the packaging and you're on to a winner!
Summary: Cien nappies are great value and are well fitting and absorbant for little bottoms!

- 12/04/06 I did a bit of research and it does seem that you ARE the same person as the Ciao's citkat (though I had to go to your Auction's link on Ciao to work out that it's probable). Thus my rating - good review that tells me pretty much everything I might need to know about a disposable nappy. |
