Clippasafe Shampoo Shield
Disadvantages: not big enough for my little girl, stopped some hair form being rinsed
As my 17month old daughter's hair has grown, obviously hair washing takes a little bit longer when she is in the bath and also, there is more and more of the shampoo suds going into her eyes, which she really hates understandably. Despite me always using Johnsons no tears baby shampoo, she just hates the water going into her eyes as I wash the shampoo out and as she has got older, her irritation by it grows.
After mentioning it in passing to my mother in law, she mentioned that she had used a shield type thing when my husband was little and it had helped stop the shampoo going into the eyes, so I looked on amazon and came across this Clippasafe Shampoo Eye Shield priced at around £2.50 and I thought it was worth a go.
I opened the item with my daughter and talked to her about what it was for and she seemed excited, but it was a different story when it came to bath time. This firstly, is a one size fits all product, which to be honest, isnt really suitable for all sizes. My daughter isn't fine but nor is she overweight, but this product barely goes over her head, and to even get that far, it is a screaming match. As you can see from the design above, there isn't a clasp to hold the shield in place it simply has to fit neatly to the head.
The shampoo shield that I received was like that above only with seaside patterns on it. THis didn't make any difference to my daughter. If fitted correctly the shield should sit like a visor with the water allowed to run over the front of it, without it going into the eyes. It is made from a waterproof material as well.
On the first use, after fighting to get it over my daughter's head in the feeble hope that if she could just see what it could do, she would warm to it. Not so. I managed awkwardly to get it around her hairline, but even then the sides of her hair got caught and I couldn't get the shampoo suds out of them, meaning even when I removed this shield I had more shampoo to rinse out in the areas the shield had stopped me getting to. On the first night of using this, I managed to show my daughter how the shampoo ran off the front without it getting into her eyes, but she was having none of it and was miserable the whole time I was washing her hair. She only calmed when I removed it. I tried it a second time, this time keeping her busy with a bath toy when I was trying to 'slip' it over her head. As soon as she seen it, there was no way I was going to get it on her head. She obviously dislikes the tightness as I put it on her head and even the water not going into her eyes wasn't enough of an incentive to make her want me to put it on her when washing her hair.
So, all in all, this was a total waste of money for my daughter. It isn't one size fits all, as it is far too small, without enough give to get it over her head comfortably. Even when I managed to get it on, I couldn't get at all the hair to have it entirely washed. I'm very glad I only spend £2.50 on this and I suppose for that price it is worth a go, because it may suit other childrens head much better, but definitely not for my daughter, who is back to having me hold a washcloth over her eyes, which isn't perfect, but it is the next best thing.
