Quite frequently my mother in law, who has two grandchildren at a similar age, buys them both a little 'treat' and since one is a girl (my daughter) and the other is a grandson, she tried to buy things that would suit either girl or boy. About three or four months ago, my mother in law bought this little 'treat' - the Alex Rub a Dub range of bath stickers and in particular this farm set. There appears to be quite a selection of these bath stickers available which I wasn't aware of until my mother in law told me. I don't know exactly what was paid by my mother in law, but you can certainly pick them up in the likes of amazon for around £9, which despite me liking the product, is a little steep in my opinion for what is fundamentally reusable stickers.
These stickers immediately caught my daughter's attention and I think the initial draw was due to the brightly coloured foam stickers that are contained within a netted bag with two suction cups to allow you to keep them hanging on the inside of the bath for easy storage, if you chose. I find it a great way to allow the stickers to dry off and there is no fear of any fusty smells accumulated because the air can get at the stickers to dry them quickly.
WIthin this bag, there is a good amount of brightly coloured farm stickers including a range of farm animals and fence, tractor and even some green hills thrown in for good measure. This range of stickers allows my daughter to play with these toys rather than simply stick them to the inside of the bath. She likes to put the animals on the hill, have a pig sitting on top of the tractor and close the gate to stop the sheep getting out! As well as sticking to the bath, these foam stickers can be used on tiles, as long as they are wet, but they can be moved around very easily, so my daughter can use them for pretend play without any difficulty and even more so as she gets older.
These stickers are recommended for children from 3 years probably because of the size of the stickers, but my daughter is never left in the bath by herself and myself or my husband are always beside her to avoid the potential of putting any of them in her mouth, which she has never done probably because she is so busy sticking them and moving them around the walls of the bath.
This tends to be a toy that my daughter plays with for a while every bath time, and then I put them away for a while, bring them out and they are like new and she will sit and play with them on the floor of the bathroom in the morning etc.
All in all, these are lovely bright colourful bath stickers that have good educational value too, with my only gripe being that I think that they are over priced for basically reusable stickers!
I bought these bath stickers as part of my son's christmas as he was lacking in toys for the bath and I wanted to make it more fun for him so while browsing Play.com and their offers at the time I came across these particular toys at just £5 so thought they were worth a try. They came with free delivery and were delivered pretty quickly which was great as I could get them hidden away in anticipation of Santa coming on Christmas Eve.
The 'stickers' are housed within an orange mesh bag that has 2 suckers at the top allowing you to hang the bag on the tiles keeping the bathroom clean and tidy which I was happy about alternatively there is a small loop of fabric you could hang on a hook but I went for the suction cups instead. There is simply a cardboard flap on the top which is easily removed and the stickers are able to used. The mesh bag is a decent size and easily holds all the stickers within it, it is sealed at the top with a small velcro square but even without this the toys would stay inside.
Firstly I attached the suckers to the tiles by simply adding a tiny bit of water to the inside and firmly holding them against the tiles. When the tiles are dry the bag stays there easily and drains the water for the stickers after use however my bathroom is fully tiled and despite having the window open 24/7 whenever anyone uses the shower or bath the tiles become dripping wet and the bag falls off so more often than not the bag ends up in the plastic basket I have to hold all the loose toys, it may just be my bathroom or the suckers but I don't find they stay up well and I was pretty disappointed by it.
The stickers themselves are made of green foam and are chunky so hands of all ages can use these, they are also quite large so no danger of eating and choking which is always a good thing. Each has a picture on the front of a farmyard animal or farmyard accessory which is waterproof feels almost laminated with a bumpy texture of which I am not sure the purpose of. There are around 12 in total from a pig, chicken and cow to a tractor and a fence panel so a decent range. All of them are different sizes the animals are quite big while the chicken is pretty small which would be the only one you would have to keep an eye on with smaller children. They stick to the bath sides and the tiles by submerging them in water and then sticking them up, they stay on very well and don't come off while wet but are incredibly easy to remove they don't stick on hard so easy for children to take down and move around, they also float in the water so there is some educational value there in that you can broach the subject of floating and sinking so great for general water play as well as bath time. They are nice and flexible and very durable, we've been using these for 5 months now and are still in perfect condition although we haven't had any incidents of trying to eat them as I suspect teeth marks would remain in the foam.
My son has used these generally for just sticking around but he has also used them to form a farm setting with the addition of some sharks and things, not what you usually find on a farm but hey ho. We also have had Buzz Lightyear coming in and saving the animals from the sharks so there is a lot of imaginative play involved in these which I really like. I paired these up with a tub of letter 'stickers' so we can try and spell the words of the animals and match the animals to their names so further educational value. Once we're done I simply pop them back in the bag and they dry out pretty quickly ready for the next bath or water play session.
I think overall these are great value for the money, they have great educational value for the older child such as my 3 year old but I think for younger children these would be good too for learning the animals and what animals are on the farm, I think they would be suitable for children 12 months plus with supervision, I would have no problem using these with a younger child. I also think they are cheap enough that if they do get wasted after a few months it is not a problem however as my son was older when he acquired these they are still in perfect condition and I have no doubts they will last a lot longer. I do have to take away a star for the issue of the suction cups not staying put but it's not a huge problem. Definitely recommended by both me and my son!
