Baby bath-time can be a real battle. At times like this I wonder why didn't God give me three arms - two to hold and support the baby, and one to wash it. With a new-born, you've also got to support the neck: what a challenge! Now, we've got bath seats, but they all require baby to be able to sit up, so what about the tiny baby? Here (I thought) was the answer.

Coming straight out of Argos for a scary £15, the deluxe baby bather is a fabric, padded seat that holds your baby so you can wash and play with them. First impressions were bad: this is a high seat, and so you need to fill that bath quite a lot to get even half the baby covered in water.

Next up, the washing: it's still just as tough to wash the entire baby when they're basically reclining in a deck chair. For a start, you can't get to the back half of them at all, so you still end up doing the world's best balancing act.

Finally, the whole thing being made of fabric just seemed dirty to me: yes it's machine washable, but I don't really want a seat that sits damp and dirty unless I wash and dry it every bath-time.

No, it seems this seat doesn't really have the answer either, but I've found it now so it doesn't matter. Here's what we do now: I get into the bath, then I have my son in with me. I lean him on me and wash him, then pass him to my adoring wife who is waiting with a towel and nappy. Sounds perfect right? Well, it was until baby decided to empty his bowels in a cloudy mess into the bath which we were laying in. My wife (and I don't understand this) found it all very funny too!
