Advantages: No nasty smells, and worked really quickly
Disadvantages: can be costly for the bottle
My younger daughter suffered terribly with cradle cap from when she was about three weeks old, when she first delveloped it, to be honest i wasn't really sure what it was as my other daughter had never had it. I mentioned it to the midwife when i saw her next and she told me it, was cradle cap, and that the best solution was to rub a little olive oil over her scalp, leave in over night and comb it out the following morning.
I did try this but it didn't really work, and the mess of using olive oil, was horrid, plus it made my poor little girl, smell of oil. So i was researching and asking other mums what they used, and many of them said to try 'Dentinox cradle cap shampoo'.
~What is cradle cap?~
Cradle cap is a form of seborrhoeic dermatitis, the name given to the dry, greasy scaly patches that appear on the scalp of young babies. It is a harmless condition that does not usually itch or cause any discomfort to the baby.
Cradle cap usually begins in babies within the first 3 months of a baby's life and tends to last a few weeks or months. It usually clears up by the time the child is 2 years old, however, in some rare cases, children can have cradle cap for a lot longer.
~How Dentinox works~
Dentinox cradle cap shampoo has been specially designed to help gently removed cradle cap, as it has active ingredients (sodium lauryl ether sulpho-succinate and sodium lauryl ether sulphate) which work with your baby's scalp to help remove the dry and flaky skin. It does this by soaking into your babies scalp, which makes it easier for mum to then gently massage the babies head to remove the dead cells.
The ingredients are safe to use even on very young babies too, although contact with the eyes must be avoided if possible.
~Did it work for my baby~
Yes, within about 2 weeks of use, and using it every other day, my daughters scalp had cleared up completely, which made me feel a lot happier, as although it didn't seem to bother my daughter, the cradle cap did look bad, as she didn't have much hair at the time, so i used to feel cautious a lot of the time when where out, so i used to put a hat on her.
~The shampoo~
The shampoo itself, was easy to use, and the instructions where very clear, at first i thought that it would have a bad smell to it, like other treatment shampoo, but was pleasantly suprized, as it was quite a nice pure smell, that didn't have a nasty lingering smell afterwards.
The shampoo comes in bottles of about 225ml, which is small and costs about £2.00. You only need to use a tiny amount each time, and the bottle did last me a fair few months. You can buy it from any major chemists or supermarkets, the packaging is white and green, and comes in a box.
Once the cradle cap has been treated, you can also use it as a mild shampoo every so often to keep cradle cap at bay, i did this and used it once every week or two, and since then we have had no recurring problems.
~Summary~
I would defiantly recommend this shampoo to parents whose children suffer from cradle cap, it certainly worked for me and my child, and the problem never came back. Ok it might be cheaper to use olive oil, but would you really want your baby to smell like a chip shop??
Summary: The best way to treay cradle cap, for your baby
