Advantages: Smells nice, Not too Expensive, Good everyday shampoo.

Disadvantages: Didn't shift the Cradle Cap.

Cradle Cap is a skin condition that causes ugly scaly patches on the scalp of small babies and is a form of seborrhoeic dermatitis. Cradle Cap is not harmful, but can cause itchiness and lets be honest - it doesn't look very nice!

Cradle Cap tends to develop in the first few months of a babies life and my baby started to get large patches of it after about a month. I had read up on the condition and knew what it was, so I did some research on the internet and saw that Dentinox Cradle Cap shampoo had some good reviews, I picked up a bottle when shopping in Tesco. At £1.93 for 125ml it didn't break the bank and I hoped that it would clear up the condition.

The shampoo is packaged in a fairly plain white bottle with a flip top, which is packed inside an outer box (see picture above). The bottle clearly states that it is Cradle Cap treatment shampoo and it lists the active ingredients and directions for use on the back of the bottle. The shampoo is used in the normal way and needs to be massaged into the baby's scalp, rinsed off and then repeated. It is mild enough to be used at every bathtime and can continue to be used after the Cradle Cap has gone.

I had high hopes for this shampoo and things started off well. The shampoo had a pleasant smell and was easy to get out of the bottle. The consistancy of the shampoo was quite runny and therefore quite easy to pour. I followed the instructions on the bottle and was happy to see that it foamed up nicely and was easy to rinse too. It seemed to be quite mild and was gentle on my baby's scalp.

However, as the days went on we noticed that the Cradle Cap just wasn't shifting and was in fact getting worse. To be honest, I don't think that the Dentinox shampoo was making it worse, but it certainly wasn't successfully treating it either - by now the Cradle Cap was lifting the hair from her scalp, so eventually I went to the Doctor and was prescribed medicine to get rid of it (as it was becoming very itchy for my little girl and was also very unsightly by this point too).

I really liked this shampoo as a shampoo, but I don't think that I could personally recommend it for treating Cradle Cap, as it didn't work for us although I appreciate that my baby did seem to have a particularly bad case! However I have given it a 3/5, as it works well as a mild baby shampoo and I have heard lots of success stories from people who have used this and had a good result.

I would say that it is worth trying if your baby has Cradle Cap as it is easily available and not overly expensive, but don't expect it to work on bad cases.

Summary: Didn't work for us, but might work for you...
