Advantages: keeps your child safely supported
This opinion has been totally rewritten.
When my youngest child had outgrown the sink, I needed to find some way of bathing her safely in the bath. This is where the car boot sale came in handy again as I went in search of a bath seat at a reasonable price.
Luckily the first one I came across, the Fisher Price Stay N Play bath seat, looked exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. I paid £3.50 for it and it has definately paid for itself.
It is a white plastic circular seat with a plastic ring about waist height and also a plasic bit that goes betwwen the legs so that they can`t shuffle about and try to stand up. There are also lots of little suction pads on the bottom to secure it to the bath. The base of the seat is blue and is made of tough rubber so it is fairly soft on the child`s bottom, and also it stops them from sliding around. Once the child is inside, it is small enough so they can`t topple over but there is enough room so you can wash your child without struggling. The back of the seat has a sponge part attached to it to make it that little bit more comfortable.
The suction pads are a lot stronger than the
ones that you find on bath mats, so once it is fixed to the bath there is not really any danger of it moving. Saying that though, you still shouldn`t leave your child unattended.
With this seat you will find that your child will enjoy the bath more as they have the added sense of security of being supported without being limited. They are suitable from whenever your child can sit up until around the age of 18 months.
My daughter loved her seat because it meant that she could play in the bath along with her elder brother and sister without being frightened of slipping. Although the instructions say this seat is suitable for children upto the age of 18mths, it really depends on the size of your child. My daughter is now 16mths and she won`t fit in it anymore as she is tall and eats like a pi
g, but that`s not a problem anymore as she is now stable enough to just sit on a bath mat.
