Advantages: excellent fit and reusable, do the job required, easy to care for and well made

Disadvantages: none really

If you have a baby or toddler, you probably are aware that a normal disposable nappy simply will not work in a pool full of water, and a normal cloth nappy will also be far to bulky (plus the cholrine will dama the wraps and whatnot). I had bought Little Swimmers before, but deciding to go to the pool with my little ones on a regular basis, I quickly realised they would be very exspensive. So, I rang the pool to enquire about what sort of nappies they would accept or could reccommend. Either disposable swim nappies or reusable ones specifically for swimming were fine. Therefore, I scoured the web looking for some cheaper than what the pool was offering to sell me for an extortionate price. For little dear son, I bought an Aqua Nappy made by Floaties.

DS was very small for his age. At nearly 6 months, he was the size and weight and proportion of the average 3 month old, one with sparrow legs, so I needed a nappy that wouldn't let anything escape...ewwwwwwww

The Floaties Aqua Nappy fit the bill. They look like miniature blue bikini cut swim trunks and are very slim fitting. The legs and waist are gently elasticated so that whilst fitting our little one's wee birdie legs, will stretch comfortably over a chubbier baby or toddler (such as my more robust daughter!), and providing good containment in case of the worst case scenario. The inside is lined with soft tricot type lining, so the entire nappy dries fairly quickly, and the outside seems to be regular swimsuit fabric.

I have to say this is really cute on a baby. The little rolls of baby podge are visible and not hidden by a large baggy nappy or cosi with built in nappy. I am probably just maudlin, but there is something adorable about podgy baby tummies pooching out over the bikini cut LOL

Now for the practicalities , other than quick drying. The nappy goes on easily, and stays up, even on a skinny, wriggly baby. It also comes off easily when you wish to take it off. Wrap it up in the towel and place in your swim bag, and it will be nearly dry when you get home. It washes at 40 or 60 quite well, and air dries in a flash. It holds its colour well (I bought dark blue), and have had no problems with perishing elastic, shrinkage, or anything else. This is such a good swim nappy that I decided I would not mind one for our daughter, the reason we are going to the pool in the first place! If using one of these Aqua nappies for a girl, be advised you will either have to go topless or in a mismatched top, or wear it under a traditional swim costume, as they do not make matching tops. Not that it mattered to me either way!

I have to say they not only did the job, but proved to be long lasting. I only had to replace the swim nappy once outgrown, and as I had purchased gender neutral colours for my daughter, I was able to pass them down to my son. I was then able to sell his on again as they were still like new despite now being third hand.

I bought the original swim nappy second hand for just under a fiver, but you can buy them new for £6.95 from John Lewis, which I did for the subsequent purchases. I do think they are good value if you are going to go swimming regularly or if putting your child regularly into a paddling pool, etc. Not being disposable, they are also better for the environment and easier on the bank balance. I simply cannot endorse these swim nappies enough!

Summary: Flaoties Aqua Nappy is inexsensive and do the job, providing a viable and simple alternative to disp
