Advantages: Huge bottle, reasonable price, good quality product, novelty factor
Disadvantages: NONE!
Having a 4 year old child come shopping with me means she is automatically drawn to novelty products and uses 'pester power' to her full advantage. So it's no surprise that while walking down the toiletries aisle in Morrisons this brightly coloured bottle, decorated with cute farm animals and a plastic animal toy sitting on the top, caught her eye.
So what is it? It's Funky Farm bath and shower gel made by Baylis & Harding. A huge 1 litre bottle complete with a choice of cow, pig, sheep or duck bottle top will set you back a very reasonable £1.95. Declaring itself a family friendly formula, on this occasion I allowed my daughter to get her way, and she chose the duck.
So keen to bathe, wich is a miracle in itself, my daughter and I ran the bath. The product works like a regular pump, only the gel comes from the ducks beak. This is described as a bath & shower gel, but with it's very reasonable price and huge quantity, I didn't mind her using it as a bubble bath. It created big, soft, fluffy bubbles which didn't fizzle away after a couple of minutes, and pleased my daughter. As a gel to wash with it lathered well and made her skin look clean and shiney. Theres not much of a fragrance to it, but that mild clean baby soap smell. I found this reassuring as my daughter is prone to slightly sensitive and dry skin.
After bathing and drying, her skin was very soft and squeeky clean. We have used it several times since and no drying of her skin has occured. As it's so huge, it's going to last ages (although does have a 6 month use by on the back) and for the price I am happy that it's extremely good value.
The one downside is that the rubber duck stopper does not dettach from the pump, so after we have used the gel the duck will be no good. There are no refill only bottles available in Morrisons (although as yet I haven't looked elsewhere), so next time we will get a different animal bottle top, making me feel a bit sad that the duck toy will go to waste rather than become a bath toy. You can remove the entire pump sytem though and rescrew it to another bottle of product, if you find one that fits. The bottle is recycable
Overall I rate this product very highly. I am not sure I'd be brave enough to reccomend it for babies (infact it's not displayed with baby toiletries, but in the kids section alongside adult products), but definitely for children over 12m. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could, on account of the toy not detaching after the gel has been used, but as I can't I have rated this 4 stars.
*** Update ***
I have now successfully managed to get the duck of the pump and my daughter has a new addition to her bath time menagerie. Re rated this product to 5 stars as promised.
Summary: Good clean fun in the tub!

- 08/04/09 Oh really? I'll try with more force and if it does I'll come back and upgrade my rating, as that would definitely make it a 5* product. And LOL at luigi and Stu...neither of you fancy the sheep then? |
